I am in the process of getting billstein 5100's installed front and back, I got a quote from a local shop that parts and labor come to $1400, they said that's with diff drop kit but just block in rear with it. Does that seem a little high? I just was on a canadian distribution site and I can get all 4 shocks myself for $450, pretty sure he said 3.5 hours labour @$85 an hour. Don't know anything about diff drop kits but should I just buy the shocks and get them to install?

That is way high. I do all my own labor so that is where they are murdering you. Just install it yourself. I did tue diff drop and it was the easiest part of the entire lift. Just take two bolts out.

Get the shock and install yourself! It takes maybe 45 minutes per side for the front and 10-15 perside rear...

    Are you mechanically inclined?

You can get all shocks for about $350 and install yourself for $0. Now you may need a spring compressor to rent.

    Lots of stuff
Install it yourself. Take the money you save on the labor, skip the block, and buy an AAL. And you don't need the diff drop.

I didn't think about doing it myself because I heard you needed a spring compressor. I asked the guy about AAL instead of the block and he said "yeah if you want it to drive like a tank"

If it really is that easy then I believe I can do it, never thought about it because i've never done shocks before

From where? Keep in mind I was looking at a canadian site because half of the sites online is ship to states only or "free within the u.s."

Try downsouth motorsports or SDHQ and see what shipping would cost.

There is a way to change the coil with out the compressor. I use it but its a little hard to explain... lol there is a youtube video though.

AAL will ride better than a block any day... New springs are even better...

I'll check them out, so new springs instead of the AAL is a better route or still need the extra leaf? Also my 5100's will be set at the highest setting, how much lift will the rear need?

I'm just trying to get enough height for 33's without doing a lot of cutting

The rear will clear 33's but for the exact number measure center of hub to bottom of fender front and rear. Then add 3" to the front and see what the difference between front and rear is...

Thanks, seems retardedly obvious I wasn't thinking. I thought the 5100's maxed out at 2.5"?

2.5- 3... The top ring is 1.75 correct? If so its multiplied by 2 due to the suspension setup... A 1.5" spacer will result in a 3" lift... If that makes sense...

Buy the spring compressor from Canadian Tire. After you're done with it, return it. Believe it or not, that's how they rent tools now apparently. As for the rear, I'd recommend an AAL over a block. There are other members from Vancouver here looking to have their trucks lifted. Maybe time for a Vancouver mod day?
