Have you ever tried soldering 1/0 gauge wire? Yeah good luck with that. Google is your friend. I did car stereo install and repair for 16 years. Mechanical crimps on large wire is the best. Just cover with heat shrink and you won't have issues. But that's my 2 cents.

The wait is killing me. Mine has been done for a long time now, just waiting on Afroman's to be complete so they can be shipped.

Tim any idea when the next batch will be complete?

Ya you need a torch to do large wire. No solder gun will do it. you don't need plugs though. Just lots of solder haha

Crimping will fail eventually. I like to crimp and solder everything personally.

My custom fab solenoid mount. One step closer to gettin this biatch mounted up. Making up solenoid leads tomorrow. Anyone have any real numbers to justify increasing from 2 gauge standard length leads to 1 gauge extended leads? I called Warn and they said 2 gauge is fine unless you start to get up to 12 or 15 feet in length. My runs will be 5 feet. Cue the vultures.

I am doing the same on a Ramsey 8000. I called them and was told they sell the 2 gauge leads in lengths up to 25 feet. I would guess at 5 feet, you are good.

So the reason I used 1/0 wire is because it is about 1/4 or less cost wise than 2 gauge. 2 gauge is considered "Battery cable" so it is more expensive. I extended my solenoid with 3 six foot runs for less than $50. That included cable, terminals, heat shrink, and a hammer crimper.

Now, yes 1/0 wire is not as flexible but I had no issues. And I'll be able to recoup some of the money reselling the crimper and extra 7 feet of wire I have left.

Post up what you pay for the 2 gauge

I am sure you are correct about the 1 aught wire concerning costs. The inflexibility of the larger wire was one of the reasons It was recommended for me not to use it. I have not tried a welding shop yet for the flexible, larger gauge stuff, which is my next stop. According to the electrician I spoke with, the 1 aught stuff from places like home dept is for homes and other permanent, non moving applications.

There is a reason cars use flexible, multi-strand wire. I am not saying you are not, but for folks who don't know, like I was, it probably should be noted.

The 2 gauge I got was $3.59 per foot(got 15'). Multi strand, so it's good and flexible.

1/0 is used in car stereo wiring for multiple amps. And is very flexible. Here is a picture.
Just trying to help y'all save some cash. But I'll leave it alone.

I was only educating. No disrespect intended, or needed it looks like. I just wanted to clarify the fact that all 1 aught wire is not the same.

Wire used on a car is supposed to be flexy, to eliminate fatigue, and a short that can cause a melt down.

I am sure I am not the only one who can appreciate savings.
