Awww...and to think, you were ready to move back home after your first semester here :boink:
Glad you had a good time, I was getting worried about you though! Thought you'd pop in every once in a while to let us know you hadn't been eaten by a bear or something

Haha, I had no internet unless I ran into C.Falls to grab some breakfast. I'm back though, no injuries. :)

Got a few, but not enough!
Anyone in Bozeman have air tools or want to help install a suspension set up this upcoming labor day on Monday?

What I want to install is FJ coilovers with bilstein 5100 front and rear struts. With the 1.5 spacer on the rear and the 2.5 height adjustment on the 5100's in the front.

Well, dont really want to splurge on those yet. I might just do a .85 in front and the FJ w/o spacer in the rear (~.5) till I get some.

I asked the good folks from Wheeler's if I needed to add new UCA's when putting the 5100's at 2.5. YotaDan said that I was fine as is. Just put the lift in yesterday so i will report to y'all the results of my alignment, which I hopefully can get done today. Granted I just used the Tacoma springs and not FJ springs so I don't know if my experience will be analogous to your. Good luck!

I alwasy thought they were a must...but that is also on tacomas so maybe yours is different.

This guy can attest to how big of a bitch the UCAs were..longest part of the install.(unless you count putting the spacer in the wrong spot:rolleyes:)

Yeah it was work to get the stock bolts out of there... The spacer thing was a whole different stroke of genius.

The issue is being able to get enough caster after adding lift.

YotaDan is correct as far as he goes, you will be able to get an alignment that will put toe and camber within spec. And the caster should be within spec as well. But the issue that most of us have faced after lifting is highway drivibility.

Aftermarket UCAs dial in an additional 2* of caster by design. This makes the vehicle much more stable at highway speeds. Plus, aftermarket UCAs allow for a longer travel arc which gives more droop and can be taken advantage of by extended travel COs.

The 2nd gen upper ball joint is muuuuuuuch easier than the 1st gen ones.
