Hey guys! I'm new here but I've been lurking on here for a long time to get answers to any questions I had about my truck. I have a 12 tacoma dc sb that came loaded out with the premium audio, nav, and the alarm system but it doesn't have a remote starter. I have been wanting one for a long time and I finally sprung for a good one on Amazon. My Q is this: how will the new remote starter/ alarm work with the stock alarm? Won't they get in each others way? The starter I'm getting is the viper 5904. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

The starter should take over your factory alarm. So you wouldnt use your factory key fob anymore. But I didnt see the transponder module included in your Amazon kit. You do know you're going to need one for that to work right? They are usually around 100.00 check sonic electronixs. They have them and I think you give them your vin and it comes programmed

I was just checking into that. Viper site says that I need the Xpresskit databus all interface module for my truck and Amazon has it for about $40. Is this module how the viper alarm will take over my oe alarm system? I sure appreciate the help.

    Thanks... Marc

I have a 13 DC with the nav and upgraded security system as well, not to hijack the thread, but does viper or anybody sell just a auto start that will integrates with the factory alarm so I do not have to pay for an alarm/remote start combo?

first... oh dear god stay away from sonicelectronics.... what a rip off, it took them 4 tries to finally get me the bypass kit I ordered. Then they had the nerve to try to take me to small claims court, where the case was dismissed. They arent even an authorized seller of the bypass kits (xpresskits)

the viper 5704 I think it is, is a decent unit. get the dball to integrate the transponder. Also, I believe theres two starter wires (if you are doing this yourself) and connections to arm/disarm factory alarm

you could probably be better off doing an alarm with remote start like above so that it can turn the factory alarm on/off. This will prevent you from having an additional remote or fumbling with locking, unlocking, locking just to start the vehicle from the factory keyfob.

I will look into it. What would be ideal is a auto start that connects to the factory alarm and I could use the auto start FOB to run both systems. I just hate I payed for the factory alarm system just to turn around and disable it to put an after market one in just to add the auto start.

you wont be disabling it, youd be using it. although if I remember right the toyota alarm is .....not as good due to non rolling code. you want a rolling code so a criminal cant simply play the signal and unlock your vehicle. the 5904 is a two way alarm, meaning you can get confirmation it armed / disarmed if you cant see or hear the vehicle, say inside a store.

Well I think toyota does make a starter that is intergratable with the stock alarm system but it is about $500 and has horrible range. The distance Just can't compete with these aftermarket alarm/starters. Not to mention this toyota remote starter is bare bones with no eye candy... Only one way and no vibration. So on Amazon I got the viper 5904 with one mile range and 2 way transmitter. It is fully loaded out and can roll up the windows and tell me what the temp is in the truck and can do do much more. I just think that if you go with a toyota starter u will pay too much and get no luxury. When I install this new viper I hope I won't have any comparability issues.

Just wanted to drop a line ... Compustar makes a Remote Starter that integrates with the existing alarm system. I had a Corolla XLE that I put one in and it was a fantastic device. I have since upgraded to a tacoma and plan to have one installed in it also. The only drawback is they are fairly spendy units ... but the range and reliability were exceptional.

For another option, I just had a Code Alarm 6553 remote starter installed last week, like it so far. 2 way so you get confirmation. The dealer was able to install the unit without the additional alarm that comes with it so total install was $375. The CA 6553 fob replaces and provides the same functions as the factory fob.

Forgot to mention this about the Compustar System ... the FOB that comes with the Compustar replaces the stock Toyota FOB and actually gives you a double lock out on the ignition. What I mean by this is after you lock the vehicle with the Compustar FOB you can unlock the vehicle with the Toyota FOB and try to start it and it will not start ... until you unlock it with the Compustar FOB. Also the Compustar comes with an anti-carjack feature where provided you have the Compustar FOB separate from your keys someone can take your vehicle "with your keys in the ignition" and you can still disable the vehicle with the Compustar FOB.
