Need some help here. Looking at possibly getting an suv for the wife. Were any 4runners ever equipped with a 3rd row seat? She is in a camry now but we need something that will haul 3 boys a little better. Thanks.

    Not the 4-Runner.
The Sequoia and Highlander are the only Toyota SUVs that have the 3rd row.

4th Gen 4Runners (2003-2009) had an option for 3rd row seating.

I had an '08 company car and it didn't have any mounts or provisions for it.

    I retract.

Should have figured with 3rd row in the Highlander they'd have it in the new 4R.

Interesting. Mine was an '08 V6 SR5, but it didn't have the mounting points. Surprised they'd run two different floor pans.

Check out how much different the trail is compared to the SR5, or limited when it comes to the rear. Curious about the '14s now... :confused:But I completely understand your confusion.

My wife has a 2013 4RUNNER Limited and it has the 3rd row. When not in use they fold down and it looks like a normal 4RUNNER cargo area.

    Nice.

One of the guys I worked with made a cabinet that filled the area behind the seat. Nice full-width slide out tray, plus a couple of cabinets, drawers, and a double-hinged lid that made a nice field workbench.

I know the 4th gen's have it as an option, they hinge up to the sides when not in use like in the GX470's.
The 5th gen probably has the option too

ive seen people take wrangler (i think tj) rear seats and put them in the back of the third gen 4runners too.

    this and that...
ive had or know someone with both iterations of 3rd row seating. in 4th gen (my wifes old 08 4r) and 5th gen (my moms 12 4r). the third row sucks and is not worth the investment. small kids will be cramped and you give up the trunk space in provision for the seats. in the 4th gen they fold up to the side when not in use. youll still lose cargo space cause the whole seat is hanging. in the 5th gen it fold down into the ground, more discreet and you retain cargo space.

My 2010 Limited does have a very functional 3rd row seat. We searched for 4 months before we found this factory build. The 2nd row passenger seat moves well forward with the lever and yeilds access to the third row (2 lap/shoulder belts). We we're trading in a Chevy Tahoe with the 3rd row and it was a pain to have to take the seats in and out of the vehicle if you needed the full cargo bay. Very nice that the 4runners 3rd row fold flat into the floor, but because of this, Toyota makes a recommendation for max height of person, and I can't seem to find it off hand. I wouldn't put a 5'6" adult back there for a long trip but its fine for a soccer mom who needs to shuttle 6 Kids around town. I give 2 thumbs up for the 4runners 3rd row...not as much space as the Tahoe but just what we needed....

Do the factory seats from a 2004 Toyota 4Runner work in all 4th generation years? I have someone that has a 2006 that wants to buy my 2004 seats. Thanks.

A little of this and a little of that.
Wow, thread revival! Points for searching specific thread.

Yes, the third row seats should be compatible throughout the 4th Gen Runners (2003-2009). As long as the '06 has the mounting provisions, seats should attach.

My '05 has a 3rd row, they fold up to the sides like older Land Rovers, or you can just pull them out fully, they only weigh about 30-40 lbs a piece.
