FEELER: 2 inch thick 2.7 intake manifold spacer

Now that the prototype 2 inch thick intake manifold spacer has been dyno tested and has proven that it lowers the torque curve without sacrificing top end horsepower, I'm curious of how much buying interest there might be in this product. It will be CNC machined out of a solid block of the same black nylon material that your intake manifold is made of so that it will appear to be an integral part of your manifold.

It will look just like this except that it will be black nylon...



This is not your commitment to buy, nor is it a group buy, or an advance paid order. I won't take your money up front and make you to have to wait for a product to be made. This is only to see how many of you would be interested in buying a spacer if the price is right. This will help me to plan on how many spacers to have made up. There's no minimum production run because I'm the one who is paying all of the costs up front. I'm taking all the risks with my own money so your risk is zero. If just one person is interested in buying just one spacer...

I already consider this project to be a success because I'm already enjoying the results every day when I drive my truck.

I'm not sure just yet, Guy. The material costs are still being researched, as we don't presently have a source for nylon blocks. I also need to source the installation hardware and O ring gaskets. As soon as I find out, I'll let everyone here know.

SingelCabGuy has been taking the time and effort to run his 2.7 at the drag strip and has been posting his results here. Because he has already logged a valuable performance profile for the 2.7, he's the right one to run a tooter at the drags.

Does that mean you'd like to be added to the list? It's not a commitment to buy. I just need a rough idea of about how many to have made on the first production run.

I'll let everyone know up front the price the spacers will be offered for sale when I know the costs of raw materials, gaskets, and hardware, so then you can decide at that time whether or not you think it's worth your while to buy.

I'll be having spacers made on an ongoing as-needed basis so they'll always be available.

 

I'm glad you brought up the issue of cost versus gains because it's worth addressing. How do you feel about the $215 (group) price charged for a 1/2 inch thick spacer that produces one quarter of the effect of a 2 inch thick spacer?

It's good to be aware of expectations before you decide to purchase anything, and not just this product. The tooter won't magically transform your truck into a wheel spinning monster. It's just a simple passive bolt on accessory.

2 inch longer intake runners only lower the torque peak by 250 rpm while the increased total intake manifold volume fattens up the curve a little at the torque peak. And it does this while retaining the top end horsepower. So you will get exactly what the comparative dyno charts show.

This is one reason I was such a stickler for testing as accurately as I could. So that you would already know the gains before you even decided whether or not to buy. Then you're perfectly free to choose for yourself what you are willing to give for what you get.

This is the beauty of Capitalism... the most benevolent ethical economic system on the face of this Earth: Freedom of association. The freedom to transact equitable value for value exchanges with others for the mutual benefit of all parties involved. You as the consumer hold all the power, because it is completely your own free choice whether or not to purchase anything. My job as a Capitalist is to produce something that might be of useful benefit to you, because that is also of useful benefit to me.

Notice that this is not a zero sum system.

Value is actually created from nothing.

The people who make and sell the nylon blocks make a profit. The people who make and sell the hardware and gaskets make a profit. The CNC engineer makes a profit for his expertise in machining the spacers. I make a profit for risking my own money to fund the whole project up front and for offering the spacers for sale. Even the shipper makes a profit. And only if you feel that what you get is worth what you pay, you also profit from the benefits of the product.
