When I bought my 11' BCLB(Before my Access) I had asked them about the Tranny flush(wasn't in the maintenance book) and the Customer Service Rep wasn't sure. They brought over a tech and he told me that, "they could change it if I wanted it done,it's not recommend by Toyota to do so". Members on this board have done their own tranny flushes.

You can do what my roommates did, just never change it. Her car is 8 years old(bought new) now and almost 200,000 km's and never had any tranny issues. I tried to tell her and her husband but it's not "important" enough apparently. :) Glad it ain't my car.

I believe you're supposed to change it at 60k miles. Doesn't sound too bad to just drop it and refill. You can either keep track of the oil you remove and replace it with that amount. Or you have to have it at the proper temperature and it should just trickle out of the check plug, this way is more difficult but is the proper technique.

You can change it. Us techs are smarter than any person in the dealership about what you can and cannot do to the vehicle. Yes you don't have a dip stick, many new vehicles don't. Every 30k I recommend a tranny service. At Ford this is a full flush. When you JUST drop the transmission pan you only get 75% of the fluid out, the converter is still full. But you get to change the filter. Some will argue that flushes are bad and dropping the pan is bad. Neither are true. They are both just as good as the other. With a flush your not changing the filter but you can have them do that just more money. When I flush is done all they do is pull the lines going to the cooler and connect it to the flush machine. Fill the tank with the proper fluid, start the vehicle, push FLUSH that is it.

I understand that it should be changed every 100k miles. maybe that is just with the older models?

According to Toyota it's 60,000 or 72 months (which ever comes first) for hard use such as towing (i'd do it even for normal use.) The Chiltons manual says every 30,000 miles or 24 months.

There is a drain plug....I've seen threads where folks accidentally drain their transmissions instead of their oil. The two are fairly close to each other.

How many miles are on your truck? A 2012 and it's time for a transmission fluid change already?

yes. and transmissions for that matter but thought maybe Toyota may have increased confidence in the a/t and its fluid since 05.

I have heard from other newer model year owners that the fluid is lifetime fluid. swear I thought I heard 100k somewhere years ago though.

im not an a/t owner. if I was I would know for sure. my slush-box gets it every 30k no matter what any literature says
