Nah it's an after market box. Some guy custom made it. It's going to the scrap yard and a full tube is going out back

    1st Gen?

Dooood.... That truck was new the same year I graduated from High School when these trucks were still made in Japan and Sid Viscous's body was still warm.
    That's going to be sweet.
Not a bad job on the box, but it's time for it to be retired.
    Maybe keep the bedsides?

So what are you going to do about the frame? Weld in channel to replace the rusted areas, or completely rebuild the rear sub?

    Lol rich play nice.

The rolling chassis is actually going to my local 4x4 shop and getting fully repaired. If I wasn't on a 7 month time restraint I'd do a full frame off

    you're point?

still paid 1500 for a rusted out truck with no engine, or if that engine came with it, without a working engine

    Technically a 3rd Generation Hilux.
But yes, the first model available in 4x4.

That's got the 22R right? Damn that's a bulletproof engine.
I put 225k on my '94 with the 22RE... oil changes every 10k at Iffy Lube.
    Couldn't kill it.
TRIED to kill it so I could justify getting a new truck.

Finally late in '02, SWMBO okay'd a Tundra.

I didn't know if he was serious or not? It's no big deal.

old toyotas i know very well. buckets were an option in 81, but they were basic as hell.. those are deffinately not factory emblems and that strange switch? is not factory, im going to read the rest and help where i can, glad to see someone fixing one up rather than scrapping it. :)

and by the looks of it that son-b is/was heavy too

here are a few pic's of my 81, i payed 1300 in 2008, and i also went through many many repairs

also two pics of my familys old 79-83 trucks

    on mine i have
replaced/rebuilt front axel (bent first then broke birfield)
    regear from 3.90 to 4.37
3 sets of tires (swampers now)
    front brakes, rear brakes
rear driveshaft twice, broke it last weekend again
    front driveshaft
    2 trannys 1 old 1 rebuilt (5th gear bustedm l52 is weak)
    3rd 22r
3rd carb (linkage fell apart on first, second never tuned)
afro engineered floor patches (not as bad rot as yours)
    swapped bucket to bench
    replaced wiring harness
    replaced coil/ignitor
    replaced water pump 3 times
    replaced alternator twice, at least
    replaced starter once
    replaced radiator once
    replaced heater core
painted it (truck was blue) its rattle can if you cant tell lol

i should just say if its on the truck its been broken and replaced :)

i love the thing, i rolled it this last weekend. so now its getting a cage. its my play truck and it owes me nothing. it just goes and goes and goes, and when it doesnt. I fix it, who cares if you spent a few to many dollars on it, its a project and as long as you enjoy it then keep at it! I have other nicer toys or projects but this one is my favorite.. i cant seem to give it up, and the worst part about roling it is now the sunroof is busted. that is the ONLY thing i cant fix.. plexi glass it will be

Ya, toward the end I was debating between retrofitting the old chain and guides to mine or just sell it.

Financially I'm too far into the truck to back out. Lol

Tonight I found even more to be concerned of. Looks like the dimmer switch started frying the wiring. Which would explain the make shift light board this g guy made. So I'll be tearing into the harness and making all repairs as needed.

Got word on my cab last night as well... basically my cab is pooched. Though with aprox 2500 Canadian I can purchase a new cab... steel floor, fiberglass cab, then fiberglass front fenders. The trucks gonna be so dam light lol plus extra for the roll cage. I'm sorry but it's gonna be caged if I'm running fiberglass
