Are you following the instructions right? Putting the truck in neutral and pushing the 4 wheel drive button Etc....

I know it sounds dumb. But just to make sure

yes sir, but no button here. just have the extra shifter.

Hey Jason, i really appreciate your help bro.
the auto does not have a button. from what i read, only the manuals have that button. i have another shifter (2 hi, 4 hi,, 4 lo) for my 4wd next to my main shifter (park, reverse, neutral, drive, etc)...when i had my wife drive it (i was on the side looking under the truck) she put it in 4wd and the front drive shaft was spinning, when she put it back in 2wd it stopped...I'm hoping nothing got messed up when i last pressure washed the bottom of the truck. had a shit load of mud under there :(

Lol easy now. Sold my Tacoma because it was my equity and I was trying to buy a house, but my brothers backed out 3 weeks later and bent me over the table. Still pissed about it.

2nd Gens have had a lot of problems with the ADD not working when they get mud in the plug itself. Knowing you had a lot of mud, first step should be to climb under, unplug it, and clean it out.

    He has a 1st gen.

Lol damn, at least you got out and had the recovery tools. I had to leave my truck overnight once and it just got worse cause of the water that had been flowing.

Right but I thought it's in a different location than the 2nd gens and not directly under the truck.

Definitely focus on the ADD actuator then. There's an electronic plug on the backside of the front diff on the passenger side. Easiest first step would be to pull it off, clean it up and push it back in again.

    ^This

    Still applies

    Yes

Not true. Still under the truck, in front of the rack on the passenger side.

Look at you getting all ready for the next time. I'm about to work on cramming my CB in under the cig lighters today, hopefully I can get it just by trimming on the center console trim and not have to modify to much else.

What length is that whip? 25 footer?
