    Hey everyone,

In april bought my 05 ext cab taco. V6. 105k miles. Pretty sure its on second clutch, but not positive (very firm, no slipping however). The other day I put it in first pull out easy, go for 2nd and it was like pulling a knife through warm butter..

Fell right back and somehow was in 4th. And then when it should have been in 2nd it slid left and right like from 2 all the way over to where 6th is.

I did have a URD short throw kit installed when I had some maintenance done and everything is fine with that.

    However,
It will not come out of second gear now. Very sloppy, can push shifter all around where 2-6th should be. Can not get it into any gears either..

Any suggestions/clarification needed please let me know!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Sounds like the shifter may have come lose/out .

Thanks for the quick reply. A friend took apart the center console to look and see if the shifter came out of the assembly or what not and everything looked to be in place? Any other ideas? Like the circle piece at the bottom of the shifter was in place where it should be..

    Ah!

05 6 speed here also, today it did the same thing. nothing seemed to be wrong...got off the free way had it in 6th went to shift...nothing solid as a rock. stuck in 6th gear. Luckily I was only a block from home but now its sitting there. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

Did you guys pull the shift lever out, and make sure that nothing is going on with the shifter, or inside the shifter housing?

Unless you were pulling a huge load, or beatin' the crap out of your truck, those 6 speeds should last quite a while.

The truck has 67k on it and I pull stuff every now and then, but I was literally just getting off the freeway. I havent hauled or pulled anything in a couple months. And yes I pulled it all apart. The shifter is fine, the shift shaft inside is stuck. Wont budge. I have a fear its the trans.

That's really weird. I'll ask around at work tomorrow, and see if anybody's got a heads up on that tranny, and any problems with the shifting.

If it refuses to come out of gear, one of the shift rails (where the shift forks ride) may have gotten bound up, or you may have a bent shift fork. Just my guess. . .

I had it fixed. They had to pull the transmission. Idk what exactly it was, but a bolt under the main shifter rod stripped itself from wear and tear. So all that needed replaced was one bolt. Whew! It was however inside the trans though.
