I just got a new OEM replacement remote for my '01 but in order to program it to work I need to find my receiver. Anyone know where it's located at?

Yep. The instructions give me a few places to look (under the seats, behind dash, etc.) but nothing specific for the location on the first gen tacomas. I can't seem to find it.

I'll look behind the kick panel, nothing under the drivers seat but an elk call, small screwdriver set, and an old french fry :annoyed:(kids)

I don't know for sure, but have an interest in the outcome of your keyless entry because I want to get the same setup for my 2000.

Anyway, maybe it doesn't have one because it never was added as an option for this truck..Why install a reciever if it didn't need one. Just a thought. You may need more than just the remote.

OR, did this truck have keyless entry, but you lost the remote...??

Just curious as to why you need to find your receiver. I'm thinking about picking up another keyless remote and figured the reprogramming thing would work.

Came with one but over the years this ones taken a lot of damage. Broke of the ring completely the other day and i've been walking around with the remote in my pocket ever since. Not to mention it's been held together with black tape for about 18 months now. Just time to replace it.

In order to program the new one you have to hold down a program button on the receiver. Kinda like a universal tv remote.

Got it from keylessride.com BTW. I think it was about $60.

Caught this thread to late. I got 2 remotes for my 04 off a guy on eBay. $30 Each. They were Original Remotes, and work perfect and look great. Very pleased. If someone needs, I can look him up and pass his username along to you.

Again, these were not aftermarket funny looking remotes. They were indeed the kind you get when you buy new.

EDIT - > This persons eBay Username is siera456. While looking him up, I see he has lots of remotes and free shipping. Good Luck.

Suck! That's $30 less than what I paid from keylessride.com! Guess I should have shopped around a little.
