Are all hitches created equal?

I'm looking for a hitch for my 97 reg cab. Is there one in particular that I could order or would one from say Uhaul be just as good as any other? I've heard that some require drilling and some dont, I'd prefer to not put any holes in the frame if at all possible.

 

As with everything, you get what you pay for. U-Haul would probably sell you something like a Reese for more than you'd pay elsewhere because people coming in there are desperate/crunched for time and have no choice. Go see a truck accessory place

 

Got a "Hidden Hitch" off the old interweb. Shipped to my house was cheaper than buying it local. Maybe $160. Dropped the spare, took out four bolts, held the hitch in place with some jack stands, added a bracket and 4 new bolts and two old. Done in 45 minutes. With the "Hidden Hitch" you don't even notice it there. Some people don't like a big bulky hitch hanging out the back of the truck.

 

How does TW think of Curt hitch? They are the cheapest option on Amazon for 130 ish

 

If you aren't short on time to get one you might watch ebay. I found a brand new class 3 Valley hitch for $85 shipped.

 

Will any from a 95.5-03 truck work?

 

I think so, but the best way to be sure and what I did was whenever I saw one I was interested in I went to the manufacturer's website and checked their fitment info. For example the Valley one I ended up buying says it will fit '95-'04, the

Curt 13013 I think you were also asking about in an earlier post also says it fits '95-'04, and the Reese 33025 says '95.5-'04.
