yeah, that does not look like fun.

i'm trying to figure out the swing out still. came up with some sweet custom ideas but making them actually feasible/ structurally sound is becoming a problem....... and also very distracting

    nice photos Marc!

dual double shear hinges on each side for a dual swingout with wrap around tail light protection to add support to the top hinges

oh, and i'm throwing this idea around a little..... in dual swingout. just for shits and giggles.

not sure it will work but it would be cool as hell.

doubtful. the tubing will wrap around and connect to the bumper, then i'll have flat bar stock connected to that running vertically next to the crease for the tailgate. basically making a triangle. the hinges will be connected to the flat bar so none of the hinges will be attached to the bumper.

TG is made of DOM. from what my dad has told me (he works for a steel distributor) HREW is basically the same strength as DOM. DOM just does not have the visible welded seam and is therefore more impact resistant (denting)

weight is a big reason i'm going with dual swingouts and dual hinges.

dual hinges will distribute the weight more rather than all the weight resting on one single point, and dual swingouts will cut the weight supported by each hinge essentially in half. downside is that i won't have a whole lot of room for a table with dual swingouts.

latching is the problem i'm trying to wrap my head around. i like the latches similar to monte's for ease of use but the screw type are much easier to make work.

Nice! that one on the right will be a decent buck! Look at how white his face is compared to the others. Looks like he's pretty old. Wonder if he's so old he's started to receed. You'd think by that age he'd be bigger. Hard to say with the velvet but his antlers even look skinnier than the others.

    Disagree.

Once the swing out is latched. Doesn't matter. Its still attached to too points. And when its open...doesn't need to SUPER beef for one tire and ferry can and all.

also I think pull levers are much easier to make work then a screw type haha

The key is to not over think it. Simple is often better, especially in these cases..just my opinion..

    yes that's true as well.

And mine wouldn't bend if the actual bumper it self didn't flex. It was Tim's first go. so can't knock him really. But if the corner of the bumper had a 1/4'' plate on it, it wouldn't move as much. its the 3/16s plate bending. Ill probably reinforce it later.

i dissagree with your dissagreeance good sir!

with two points when the swing out is closed you won't get as much torque on the arm to deflect. when i was behind you, i could see the entire arm flex forward and back when you were doing "high speed maneuvers"

i do agree that you don't NEED to make the hinge super beefy for the tire and a jerry can. having the two hinge points just make me feel better about it and the amount of flex from the carrier. there is also a method to the madness for making a dual swing out too...... namely a trailer.

really i feel it comes down to what you are comfortable with. i like the idea of dual hinges. they are both good ways to go about it, just ......different

Wow. Not sure of the circumstances but looks like the leaf hangers broke... probably a prerunner so the driveshaft just pulls out of the tranny instead of being bolted on.
