Geez, as long as it can be repaired. Im happy, i do not mind paying out of pocket lol.

I have seen how the glass installer put in windshields before.... My mom had to get a new glass for her Subaru Forster, few months ago. U have to cut the black rubber stuff and put new caulking in... is just a mess.... and on top of that the glass was not dead center... kind of crooked....

I MUCH RATHER have the OEM repaired, than a entire REPLACEMENT.... Just 1 of the things that i believe, once replaced, it never will be the same.

Chips can be repaired. Some companies can repair cracks upto a certain inches. Nothing is going to 100% the same as the original. I think that when it comes to your mom's vehicle, the installer could have just a shit job. Doesn't mean that all companies, installers are the same. Just don't go to the same place your mom did.

On my 11' BCLB(just under 3 months) and now my 13 Access(48 hours after bought), I ended up getting rock chips. I had phoned Speedy Auto Glass who I've gotten my chips fixed from in the past and they said that it was going to be around $450(with instal) for everything. I thought that was pretty good. They used the same glass and everything that the dealer does. The only difference is the price and you don't have the OEM sticker on it.

To the OP. The dealerships use 3rd party companies to get their glass and installed. They don't keep the glass in house, the cost to do that would be retarded, plus no space to keep it. But since some people like getting everything from the dealership they are going to pay the $977.00 for a window. When you can go to a specialty glass place more than likely gets the business from the dealerships. You're going to pay a lot less by going through them, getting the same work done. You're just not getting the OEM sticker on the window or the high dealer price. So don't go to the dealership, call around and get a glass company in your area to get you new glass.

Get it done ASAP or it can spread/spider lines all through your windshield then you will have to replace the entire thing.

THIS. Get it done today or tomorrow or you can consider your windshield may as well need to be replaced. That happens alot for when weather temps fluctuate especially. Either way, if it gets hot then colder at night it may definitely spread. My friend's Tacoma had a small rock crack, and Safelite failed to show-up same day like they were supposed to and by the next day the crack spidered clean across the windshield. So instead of a small epoxy fix fee that his insurance would have covered, it is basically a ~$250 windshield cost.

Your chip can be fixed. Get it done asap.

I had got a small chip on my Access Cab just before the end of winter. The weather was constantly changing within a hour or so at a time. I phoned the glass shop the next morning(Friday) and they could get me in Saturday morning. 2 Hours before my appointment on Saturday, the chip spread three quarters across my windshield. I phoned and cancelled my appointment. I was so pissed off!

do NOT park with your windshield in direct sunlight until after you get it fixed.. when the sun heats up the window it will make the cracks start to travel and you wont be able to get it fixed

It's called glass coverage on your car insurance! My 06 windshield has been replaced twice now in 7 years and I have not paid anything out of pocket for the $300+ windshield from Safelite. I have that piece of mind feeling that if my glass breaks for any reason, I do not have to pay out of pocket for the it.

Safelite glass is cheap for a reason. It's horrible quality and it gives your a weird distortion. Get the factory glass. Glass deductible is usually cheaper than the standard deductible. I paid $100 deductible and got factory glass.

    ???? Why the smiley?

OP, there are windshield repair places. They have ways of doing this and it will be just fine. If it's anything like how they did it to my car, they inject a type of silicone(?) into the "starburst" crack and it fills it up. Then they polish it out. You may be able to see an ever-so-slight mark from it being there but it won't be reflective like where the glass has cracked.

Takes a day to cure. You'll be just fine. I think I paid $35 to have mine done. :)

I have no issues with my Safelite glass. No distortions at all. Not sure what you are smoking.

I usually keep a couple of glass repair kits at the house and one in each vehicle just in case. Not hard to fix yourself...
