moved here from CA, given my trucks a v6 but its 2wd too ... when i go along with these guys for trail runs i just ride with someone else. But if you arent all about wheeling and dont live up in the mtns, in my opinion you dont need a 4wd to get around.

You don't think you need 4WD to get around Denver? Have you been here for winter yet...?

Hit Slaughterhouse Gulch with a buddy yesterday. That optional climb at the bottom of the loop (before you start heading back up the loop) was pretty tricky, but I got it done.

So ColoradoTaco and I went up Bunce School Road today to check out the plane crash.

I didn't get a whole lot of wheeling pics, but I really liked the trail. Just enough challenging parts to make it interesting. Also, it was super tight in areas. The only other vehicles we saw up close to the end of the trail were jeeps, quads, and bikes. Each of our sliders took some hits and in one area, the kick-outs pivoted us around a tree rather nicely.

It was a T-33A Jet trainer with two aboard.
I guess the pilot owned some land out there that he was checking out.
Don't know if they ever figured out the cause of the crash.

Cool video. When I ran the trail earlier this summer, it was a shit show with tons of people on it making passing a PITA, nice that there were not as many folks on the trail for you.

hi, friends. you're all making me jealous with these photos and videos and giving me the motivation to hit these trails.

as a beginner i would like to start out safe and slow and work my way up. i'm a big fan of going off the beaten path and my past drives have been pretty mild but out in the middle of nowhere. thanks to the TW forums and users for helping me with building up my taco and confidence to take it a step further.

planning on doing bunce school road and rock creek very soon. i'd also like to do this t-33 trail and ironclads. i am in boulder about once a week but sometimes i sporadically make my way to other trails up and down the front range from colorado springs. this means i'm usually alone and would like to hit these trails when i suddenly have the time.

are these trails ok for solo drives?
    thanks.

My understanding is that bunce school road IS the plane crash trail.

Given that NYCO said he got his first dent there and I likely would have without the sliders, I'd highly recommend having at least those for armor (it's really tight in spots)

I guess for the same reasons, I'd recommend going with at least one other truck.

if you check out this map:
    http://www.traildamage.com/trails/bunce_school_road/maps/area_map.gif

bunce/purple, t-33/red, ironclads/teal. coming from the south and will head up to lyons and then I25 to go back south.

my sliders are tight enough to protect the rocker panel but are flush with the door. maybe i should just mentally prep for some damage so i don't break down and lose it on the trail. i guess that's why the 2nd truck would be there, to slap me out of my shock.

I really need to get myself a gps that supports trail maps.

I usually just go with people who know where they're going and blindly follow along until I've been to a place enough times to know it myself.

I used to be a nervous wreck even with maps......then I got my garmin I carry extra batteries and don't think twice about taking forks that I don't know where they go. It keeps track of where you have been so its easy to back track.
