I have a 2004 Tacoma extended cab 3.7. The truck has a ARB bumper with 8k lb winch. I have added spacers to level the front two years ago. Right now it is back to front sag. I use this Tacoma for lots of ranch work and rough roads. I believe the front springs are shot. I have a set of front coils off a 2007 Tacoma double cab. The coils are the same height and looks like same dia rod. I see the 07 coils have less wraps than my 04 springs. Has anyone ever did this swap and will it work ? I would like a litter stiffer front with a little lift 2- 2 1/2 inch.

I want to say I've read that the diameter is different between the 2 and that they won't work.

Look into OME 881's, that's what I have and they ride great. 2" of lift.

    Oh and welcome to TW.

Ok I measured the two different springs, same diameter and same wire size. The stock progressive spring has more cols than the 07 spring but yet they are the same height. The 07 springs have more space between each wrap. Has anyone ever tried this swap?

I doubt it'll work. There is a reason why they make 95.5 to 04 then 05 and up. You'll have to modify for it to work. IMO not worth the headache. Both 05 and up and 95.5 to 04 shocks different and springs differ along with different top plate and length of the front shocks.

Will the bilstein 5100 struts help any with the original springs?

The length is the problem and different top plate and bolt pattern so no.

I want to say the '07 coils you have will work, dimentionally speaking, I say this because the EMU 883#'s mentioned are actually for 2nd gens but as it turns out work great for 1st gens w/plate bumpers/winches/etc:

(I run 883#) So probably the '07 coils would work just not how well or if it will fix your sag, the Bilsteins are great but not going to help your saggy stock coils....;)

Thanks guys for the info. It seems the 07 coils have stronger coil tension. I will buy some bilstein struts and add to the 07 springs and give that a go. My struts look like they are leaking as well plus springs being shot so I will try this set up. If it does not work,,, well I needed to change the struts anyways. This 04 gets used hard on rough terrain, This will be the second set of struts and first coil change, Rear leaf springs have been changed and modified as well. Only 65k rough miles on 04 and it really feels worn out. Once again thanks!!!

I had the Bilsteins 5100 (set in the first lift position .85") mounted with stock coils on a 2001 Tacoma DC. The ride improved with this setup, however, I still had some bottoming out off road. I was running 265/70r16 tires. I recently mounted the EMU 883 coils with the Bilsteins set at 0". This added about 3.00 inches of total lift and the truck rides much better. (no front end diving around corners) I did this because I changed tires 265/75r16 Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 (40,000 mile warranty!) which are true 32's and I was getting some rubbing. In addition, I am planning on adding an ARB Bumper with a Warn 9500xp-s Winch. With miles, new Bumper and Winch I should settle in at about 2.5" of front end lift, which is ideal for me. Dan at Wheeler's suggested that I go with this setup for my application and I highly recommend it!

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
This is what i was going to say, if OME 883s work on both 1st and second gen then 2nd stock coils should work on 1st :notsure:

Roadhard, which REAR Leaf Springs did you go with on this truck and why? I need to to replace my stock set now. I do have a Firestone Ride Rite air system installed now, so I can use this if I have to carry extra weight. I'm looking for about 2.5" to 3.0" of lift to match the front. I'm have Bilstein 5100's on the rear as well as the front. I'm thinking Alcan's or Deaver's?
