Just had a CompuStar remote starter installed last week. I leave my parking lights and fogs on all the time. Normally they just come on when I start my truck and go off after I shut 'er down and open the door. With my remote starter, when the truck starts, the lights come on. If I don't get to it in-time (I think I get 18 minutes) the starter will shut it down but my lights stay on. As soon as I open the door they go out. Will be calling the installer later today but wanted to know if anyone had any ideas?

Please, let us know what the installer says. I'm thinking about the same remote starter. Thanks.

My wifes 4runner had a python remote start and the parking lights came on when you remote started it, but now we have a compustar on her new volvo and the installer could not do it the same way. Now the headlights come on as does yours. He said some makes/models require this because of how they are wired. Also when we start the volvo the doors unlock for 10 seconds and then relock and the installer is stumped as to how to stop this.

    interesting??
i have a compustar starter on my truck and Love it !!!!

Now i dont normally leave my lights on, so when it starts the parking lights flash and they come on once the truck starts. But if i do leave my light switch on, the lights will all come on, but then i dont see the parking lights flash when starting ( because the light switch is on - constant power to the lights )

I think your starter is installed correct, its the door that activates the lights to shut off, so if you dont get in/out of the truck, there is nothing telling the lights to shut off. your just used to them shutting off when you would get out of your truck, but with the remote your not in the truck yet. and thats why when you open the door later they shut off then, truck thinks at that time your getting out. hope this is making sence.

Do you have many times when you remote start your truck and dont get in it?? if so i would try to make sure light switch is off then.

I had a Compustar setup on my 02 Taco. That double arm is a feature that can be turned off. I no longer have the manual, so I can tell you how to turn it off.

But it's there because on some cars, it will trigger the factory alarm, if the alarm doesnt unlock, then lock. You should have received 2 booklets. In 1 of them, it will talk about this feature.

Now the alarm itself was awesome for me. The only shitty part was the remote. Kept resetting itself. Swapped out 2 or 3 times but same issue. So I just dealt with it. Hearing that BINGO song was pretty annoying after a while.

my remote starter (viper unit) does the same thing, i'm going to wire it up to the door sensor wire. on my unit, i can use the factory arm (neg pulse) to pulse the door trigger which should turn off the lights. there are other ways to do it too that i'll attempt if this method doesn't work

I installed mine (Marksman X11) and it does this only with the light switch on and after autostart has run its course; otherwise it turns off the parking lights and/or factory times out. The solution is to add a relay to activate the door switch to shut the lights down. I don't see it as a problem because it only happens after remote starting the truck. Since I plan on being in the truck within 10-20 minutes I haven't bothered with adding the relay.

I know this thread is 3.5 years old OP, I was wondering if you or anyone with the Compu Star Remote start system would give us an update after having used it for a few years. I live in Alaska, the winter is coming and I am considering installing a remote start system. I have narrowed it down to either Python or Compu Star. I'm leaning towards the Compu Star right now. From what research I did so far, Compu Star has better remotes and a simpler system all together. Any input is appreciated :)

Aside from a few battery changes in the remotes, it's worked flawlessly. So nice in the winter to get the truck warmed up a bit before going out and cools down nice in the summer. Would absolutely go CompuStar again. Not the most feature-rich but a great bang-for-the-buck.

got the compustar for the warden's 12 dcab, v6. when we purchased the tacoma and went with the 2 way lcd remote with 1 way single.

thank goodness they use regular AAA batteries for the remote. we go thru a battery about every 6 months.

lcd remote display is great but bulky.

they do make the unlimited ranged compustars now, but they were about $100 above the 2 way lcd remote. plus i dont know how much the service is per month/year since i think it piggybacks on the celluar network to transmit to the vehicle from anywhere.

Can you guys tell me how the remote start was wired up? Wiring diagram shows 2 Ignition wires and 2 Starter wires.
