I'm about to push the button in a day or two and would like to know what you guys like and dislike about the Roll N Lock cover. How often is the canister a problem? Has it gotten stuck on you? Pictures?

    Thanks Gents!

I had one on my Dodge Ram, I liked it, the only thing I didn't like was the vinyl cover. Somebody I know (that also has the cover) flung a cigarette out the window, landed on his cover, and burned a hole in it! Expensive fix! Other then that great cover!

I had a Pace Edwards cover on my Ram. It lasted for about ten years before the spring rusted and broke inside of the drum. Combining a locking tailgate with the roll top cover made the bed nice and secure. What I didn't care for was having to clean the leaves and sludge out of the bottom of the canister so that the drain tubes would stay open. I'd get one for the Tacoma but the canister housing takes up too much space from my DCSB so it went with a folding top that can be removed in under a minute. If the canister was more easily removed I'd have gone with that again.

I have had a RNL cover on my 05 Taco for about 4 years. It does the job quite well. Yes, the cover can accumulate leaves, seeds and pine needles, so I try not to park it under "dirty" trees. There is a sweeper strip which does an OK job of keeping debris from getting into the canister, and would certainly work better if I installed a new strip. It would also help if I could park on an incline, so water would drain away from the cab. Cleaning it is very easy, and requires the removal of only 4 screws. I probably do this twice a year. The spring cleaning is mostly for washing out copious quantities of pollen, which the strip can not stop.

It is true that some bed volume is lost. There is clearance between the bed and the bottom of the canister, so long, flat items are accommodated without interference. Many common items that are carried in the bed are too high to allow the cover to close. Only one of the coolers I have will fit. Not a big deal most of the time.

One last consideration is heat. Do not underestimate how hot it can be inside when the cover is closed. Forget about locking up your laptop, especially if parked in a sunny location. The handles can get too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. Ouch.

I considered the canister issue but decided that if I need those 9 inches, I can drop the tailgate! I also considered to BAKflip but decided that I preferred the security of the RNL over the ability to completely remove the cover. That being said, I do wish in the future that RNL would make a secure canister that could be removed quickly for those times it would be needed.
