First Gen. OME coil info

I PM'd DSM about this but i figured i'd ask here to, i'll be getting 881's soon (so i can fit a 265/75/16) and i was wondering about the OME Billy shock difference, is it with it to go with OME over billy?

 

guys, has anybody tried ome 885 in front for the first gen.I have winch and bumper up in front and was planning to put on 883s on my 97 4runner but got a good deal on 885s should I go for them?

 

IMO the 885's will be way to stiff, and possibly not the right length.

 

try some stock tundra coils

 

yeah, that's what I a m thinking too.IF you guys know anybody on 3rd gen with 885 throw a link down here, I have been searching desperately but could not find anything on the net

 

I checked with cruiseroutfits and 883 and 885 are identical other than 885 is 20mm longer, how about shortening them?

just talked to wheelers about some coils for my ex cab 2.7 pre runner. im lookng to lift 3'' to match my all-pro 3" lift leafs i just installed and they recommended me to use the 881's to get 2.5" than add a 3/8 spacer on top for a full 3". if the op says 881's will get me around 1.5" that doesn't make sense what the rep at wheelers told me.
also why couldent i just use 882's and no spacer to get 3"? i know shops dont like to recommend anything but what the factory says but i dont see an issue with that. unless somebody here knows better? will that damage the shock? limit travel?

 

I know this is an old thread, I had to go back and see what I posted to remember... anyway. I've been running my 5100's jacked up all the way, with the 881's for over 3 years now with 0 issues. Just FYI. I actually like how it handles too

 

So your on the 3rd setting on your 5100's? Did you do that from day 1 or did you move up on them as they sagged? What kind of lift did you get from that?

 

By the way how does that handle with all that preload? Has it changed at all in the last 3 years?

 

I ended up going with Bilstien 5100 set on zero and 883 coils, substantial lift up front but a winch is in the cards, so that should tame it some. on the rear I went with the ARB heavy exp pack and the overload AAL, rides nice and handles pretty good. Maybe Timbrens in the future but so far it is nice...

 

882s on a prerunner with only an ARB bumper is a rough ride. Need to put some weight on the front end but the 4x4 conversion is in the distant future. This leaves a winch and aftermarket skid as options.

 

It has changed a little as far as sag, not very much though. I did expect a little sag to occur over time. I'm sorry I don't get on here much anymore. As far as handling, I think it handles great, feels awesome on sharp curves, very responsive and I was driving on a county dirt road awhile back, they had dumped a load of rock and hadn't completely leveled it, I didn't know it was there until it was too late, I went airborne, and it handled it beautifully. I was impressed.
