    No I'm going to do that tomorrow. Gonna pull the carb and make sure it's not clogged. I ride gravel 20 miles a day and its been dusty. Maybe somehow dirt got in there and clogged the passages. Might do a valve adjustment but that's a last resort. It shouldn't need it yet according to the service interval.

    Exhaust pipe doesn't have crap clogging it up?

    It should fire with ether even if the jets are clogged, it would just die right away.

    Check the float needle.. Our recon does it all the time, I can pull it apart blindfolded now. The ether still not firing it worries me though..

    Exhaust could be clogged, but I had it off not too long ago and it seemed fine.

    Yup that tells me it's either not getting spark, has no compression, or maybe the timing chain jumped a few teeth.

    No it's been running increasingly worse until yesterday I could barely get it started, then when I did I had to throttle it constantly to keep it running. It was pretty bogged down. Got home and it hasn't started since. Went through 2 battery charges trying to get it to fire once.

    Definitely check valve clearances and compression.

    I guess I will do those tomorrow for sure. My roommate's Ruckus did this same type of thing and it was the fuel pump. But since mine is above the minimum flow that Honda says I need, I think I can rule that out.

    Yeah to be honest this sounds like you sucked dirt past the filter somehow and destroyed the top end of the motor.

    Let's hope that's not the case.

    Good thing my dad actually owns it huh! He has deeper pockets than I. I'm going to look at a GS850 tomorrow that might get me back on a real motorcycle sooner than I planned. After I sold my old bike I wasn't planning to get another bike this year, but the price is right.

    Believe it or not air filter maintenance on small engines is a huge deal. with an extremely dirty filter it is possible to suck in dirt, which will ruin rings in a hurry. imagine aerated sandpaper in your cylinder. id be willing to wager low compression is a culprit seeing as it wont kick when you spray starter fluid in the carb.

    I replaced the filter about 2 weeks ago. I keep on top of it since the dust is terrible. It hasn't rained in over a month so the roads are dry and loose as an 80 year old granny.

    You should pull the filter out and see if there's any dirt residue behind it. Maybe it wasn't seated correctly.
