"When" not "if" - Trail Damage

I miss our chats about negative arch and extended bump stops.

Unlike our friend in question, I never tried to come across as the subject matter expert or play the one-up game. To this day I still hold dear the advice you've given.

 

What's funny is that doording said over and over that he DIDN'T know whether or not sliders would have prevented the damage. You were the one who knew for a fact that they would have, even though its not possible to know. So, who's the pretentious know-it-all?

Slid onto a stump this weekend and got my rear door a little.



Hardly noticeable The pinstriping that is now covered by mud that I sustained is much more annoying. Stupid black :/

Man those sliders that are laying in my garage sure would have been nice...

I pussed out of a trail the other day I used to take with my '97. It's maintained by a 4WD club, maintained just enough to keep the trees from overgrowing it. Narrow trail, and I'll admit I pussed out rather than get my paint scarred.

 

GAH! Indeed that noise...

Why use a fragile human part instead of the sliders ? I'm assuming there is another angle that tells a better part of this story.

Happens dude. My advice, scout as far down the trail as you think necessary, go at least that far AGAIN, and then make a decision based on the worst possible outcome. That's what I didn't do. Full story's on my build page, but here's the summary

Yeah dude, the driver side rear wheel was waaaay off the ground, and it was seesawing back and forth. Scary stuff

 

Body damage doesn't bother me . It's the exploding rear diffs that hurts

Shit, I get dents in parking lots. Of course you'll take some big hits off-roading. Has nothing to do with how good a driver you are, it just comes with the territory. There are those who say it's part of the fun...

 

I don't do any real off-roading, just fire roads when I go camping with my kids (ages 7 and 10)...was parked in a parking lot during a YMCA Adventure Guides (fka indian guides) camp out...wind blue a tree down and took out my brake light, third brake light on my shell and my bumper. I don't care what you do, if you take it out of your garage, something can happen
