Replacing tires

This go round, wanted to get the best all around tire, that would perform on the highway AND off-road, and am partial to A/T tires. I noticed on TireRack.com's survey of top A/T tires that they list the Firestone Destination A/T ($119) first, Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor ($167) second, Michelin LTX AT/2 ($166) third, and the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo ($139) fourth.

I had been leaning towards the Michelins, having heard a lot of good things about them over the years, but never had a set, and was wanting to try them. However, it's hard to ignore this survey, with millions of road miles behind it, plus the fact that the Firestone Destination A/Ts are $47 per tire less than the Michelins...

For those who might have had both, how do the Firestones rank in your opinion compared to the Michelins as far as road noise and tread mileage?

Not interested in BFG A/Ts, ran those for years, and they are a good tire, just wanted something different.

Everyone that has run revos loves them. I would think about Nitto Terra Grapplers or the Firestone Destination A/Ts.

 

Michelins will last you the longest IMO I wish I had the money for them when I bought tires. I know people that repeatedly get over 70,000miles with their michelins.
.....hmmmm, maybe they didn't tells us something like that toyota secretly makes michelins

You are entirely correct. I totally spaced this one out. I spend 99% of my time on 1st Gens, so I completely forgot about wheels and tires...would some generous moderator move this thread to that section...?

the bridgestone revos are great
if you can hold off till 1st ot the yr B/S
has the revosA/T 2

 

What's the difference going to be between the A/T and the A/T2? Is there a write-up I can read?

I just bought some Goodyear Wrangler TDs. There is some sale going on with them. They look nice, fairly aggressive but not too bad. I paid $115 each, mounted, balanced, etc. I think it is a good price.

Should I be concerned with a change in tire size from 265/70-16 to a 265/75-16? I don't think that I will have a big change in fuel economy/performance. What is y'alls input?

Whatever you decide. I would buy them from Goodyear or Costco, they come with lifetime bal,rotate, & road hazard.

Goodyear I think can get any brand from the warehouse. I found they were a couple hundred cheaper than tire rack. Where tire rack screws you is the shipping & installation($200 for 4 tires). Yeah initially the tire is little bit cheaper.

I was going to get the BFG G-Force tires again. But they were $1300.

So I went with the Nittos. Great tire! 30k miles and they don't look worn.

I was able to get 20" Nitto's NT420's installed with lifetime rotate, balance & road hazard for around $800

 

I thought costco only carried BFG and Michelin?

 

And last time I checked Costco only sells stock size tires for example I wanted to get some BFG A/T and they won't sell me 265/75R16's just the stock size 265/70R16's.

 

The Michelins and the Revo2s are right at the same price, so that would be a toss up. Unless I could find them somewhere locally for less. Costco has the Michelins, but they are right around the same price. I guess I was wondering if the Firestone Destination A/Ts were a good tire for the price...

 

I have had excellent luck with the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S. I was a little skeptical at first as this was the first pair of Yokohama's I have ran, but the tires are awesome. I have the truck off road on a regular basis running over downed mesquite limbs and sharp rock as I work for a developer. I have yet to have any sort of issues with them and already have 20k miles on them. The tires have hardly even worn at all. Only time will tell but I can see this set getting a good 70-80K miles.

I went with a 265/75R-16 load range E because I needed a tougher tire than the standard passenger tires, but the E range tire is a little excessive if you don't really need it. It is a little heavy weighing in at about 51 pounds too.

Overall I have been really pleased with the tire and would recommend them to anyone who wants a good A/T that gets good traction off road, and has good manors on road. Wet weather traction is good also.
