    I'm thinking a "164 HP @ 5200 RPM" sticker. :burnrubber:

So...I've got to ask...why would a guy with a 2wd even open this thread let alone write a comment like this on it? Thinking of advertising something you're not?

It's been said that jealousy takes many forms.... :jerkoff:

I once saw a Jeep Wrangler that had a sticker that said "2.5L Low Output" where the normal "4.0L High Output" would be on the inline 6 models. I laughed my ass off. I used to have one of those 4 bangers and felt his pain.

    Here's mine:

I just wanted my Tacoma badged accordingly to what it was. The Tundra 4x4 is a little bigger than the other badges, but if you put it where a PreRunner badge goes on that model, it balances out just right. Seemed off to me that that higher trim/packages have less badging than the lower ones.

I hated badging, and was glad that the TRD's didn't have the "SR5" any more on the tailgates for 2013.

So many potential chrome badges back there. Worst offenders in my eyes were the V6 Prerunner SR5.

But again, that's just my opinion. I prefer a cleaner look.

OP: Glad you like it, I had the same thoughts as you when I first got my truck. I looked at all different options that people had done to theirs, and decided on the layout as seen on the my tailgate in the picture. That pic doesn't show it, but with them placed like that, it looks balanced from a distance. By that I mean, left side badging aligned left, "Toyota" top row, "Tacoma" bottom row, and on the right side, aligned right, "4x4" top row and "TRD V6" bottom row. I used the PreRunner placement diagram as a measuring guide to get it all just right. I probably looked a little OCD with a level, painters tape and a ruler, marking the spots just so before applying the badges, but it did turn out quite nice.

I have a sincere appreciation for the "Clean Look" as people refer to de-badged vehicles. The problem I run into with it is endless questions from friends, co-workers and even complete strangers. My other vehicle is a 2011 Camaro. I de-badged the Chevrolet bowties from the grill and back deck. (It is the base LS model, with no other badging besides those and the "Camaro" lettering on the front fenders, which I left in place.)

I got sick of being asked stupid questions from the clueless or even the mis-informed, self proclaimed "car guys". Clueless people would say, "I like your "Mustang" or "That's a sick charger you got out there." The misinformed would ask me "Is that an SS or an RS?" SS is the V8 model, RS is an appearance package available on the LT or SS Trim models.

So I just bought "LS" badges and put on the front grill and rear right trunk lid, and got the larger "CAMARO" lettering to put across the back between the tail lights like the Camaros of old. That put an end to the stupid questions.

So when I got the Tacoma, I just got the 4x4 and TRD badges to avoid dumb questions. I also have the TRD grill emblem on the right side of the front grill. That way I don't get asked "Is it two wheel drive or 4 wheel drive?" or "Is it an SR5 or a TRD?" Nevermind the big decals on the sides of the bed, nevermind that a TRD is also an SR5, nevermind that there are big 4x4's painted on the rear mud flaps. Stupid people can't see those, or assume you added them yourself. Put those badges on, and the questions stop immediately.

So very, VERY sad, but sadly, also very true..

Somewhat a poor reason to add badges, but I've grown fond of the way my vehicles look with them now, even though a part of me really likes the "Clean Look". I started to do it with my car, and I got sick of the hassle of not having them! All I can say in closing is two points to sum it all up:

    1) If you like badging, just make sure you badge appropriately to what your vehicle actually is, no one likes a poser who "Up-badges" to something they are not. Any true fan of your type of vehicle will know what to look for to be able to tell what it is otherwise.

    2) Adding or removing badging is like trimming a bonsai tree, there is too much and too little. I see a lot of people have just Tacoma or Tacoma and the 4x4 badge added. It is a delicate balance, If you add too much, it starts to look ridiculous, if you take away too much, you can be the victim of stupid people and endless questions. Some may like that, I did not.

I will say, with the Tacoma, my setup is probably just shy of the acceptable limit without looking stupid. Already too busy for some, but not too much that it looks like overkill. With my car, I have a good balance now since I no longer have the generic Chevrolet bowties on the front and back of an iconic sports car. I added back just enough, but it still looks very clean with minimal badging.

Opinions will vary, of course, but you will know how much is just enough for you and what you want to call out. Good luck!

Great explanation and again I like what you've done. Seems like the "V6" emblem was an afterthought and now with the added badging makes more sense.

Can you please post a pic of the entire tail gate. I realize what you've done is to balance left and right with two rows but I'm leaning towards only one row on the right side by placing the 4x4 to the left of the V6.

    Thanks!

BTW; I see we have something in common. :)

im sorry but that looks ridiculous. why would you 'supersize' the 4x4 badge? thats how the tundra badge is going to look next to tacoma stock badges. it doesnt fit in. that picture is proof. three different fonts, sizes and colors all going on in 4 square inches. your truck is a 4x4, who cares if it has a sticker that says so, esp at that ^^ cosmetic expense...

I can't speak for LoneCynic but my guess is he did it for the same reason you stickered up your slider. Because he bought & paid for it, he's entitled to it, and he is proud of what it signifies.

I would never sticker up glass on a vehicle. But then again, that's just me. Different strokes...right?

lets see; my trade union, snow and windsurfing. Not the same as a badge signifying mechanical options / configurations of an automobile. But nice try though.

In all honesty...I think everyone who's honed in has excellent ideas for badging this 4x4 in the right place. But the fact of the matter is; I'm a purest, always have been, and always will be. I will never alter a factory stock vehicle in any way. I bought the thing because of what it has to offer w/o any necessary alterations.

The reason for this thread; I just wanted to bring awareness to the fact that Toyota F&^% up! What is and has always been the most important feature in a truck...4X4!!! I don't care how you slice it up...TRD OR, TRD Sport, etc... It is, and will always be...4X4!!!

If a truck is not ordered with 4 wheel drive place the TRD stuff on the quarter. If it is ordered w/4WD, and the need to display TRD OR & Sport is so important, place these on the mud flaps! Now, doesn't this piss off the TRD OR & Sport non 4x4 owners? If it doesn't it should. Quite frankly, nothing should be on the flaps...it's kinda like placing the best features of a vehicle on the tire tread. There today, gone tomorrow.

Common Toyota...wise up! Come up with a better way of badging these things!

I like it on the mudflaps myself. It's been there on their small trucks for a long time. I would hardly say Toyota f'd up. Looks are subjective. Some need 4x4 plastered all over the place. Some don't. I highly doubt Toyota has lost any sales because there wasn't a giant 4x4 emblem on the bedside. If you like the look, that's fine. Hardly a failure by Toyota though. I'm more concerned with them keeping their trucks relevant and competitive. Not where they choose to put 4x4 decals.

Perhaps they should put big LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL sticker on the bed too. I mean OR owners paid more for this, they should want to advertise to those who don't know want the OR package is.

If it matters that much someone with an OR model could get decals from the 2014 Tundra. The Off Road decal now has 4x4 in it too. On the flip side for a long time Silverado and Sierras with the Z71 package didn't say 4x4 anywhere on the truck.
