Hey folks. New member checking in here. I thought I would join after lurking off and on a while. I'm new to Tacomas, but not too new to Toyotas. I just picked up a 2013 double cab Short bed TRD almost 2 weeks ago. But, I do still own an 82 reg cab short bed SR5 4x4 I've had for a handful of years now. I was sort of forced into getting something, as my daughter will be driving soon. Rather than find her a used "something" I elected to hand over my 97 Z71 I bought new 16 years ago. I have been saying if I got something new, it would be a DC Tacoma, so I did. Knowing how I can't leave my vehicles be, I figured I better join, so I could bounce questions off some of you who've been driving them a long while.

I've owned 4x4's for 39 years, and my current stable is now at 5, so maybe I can be of some use here and there as well. For those curious minded folks, I currently have, besides the Tacoma, 97 Z71, and 82 yota mentioned, an 89 K5 blazer, and my wife drives an 06 Hummer H3.

I'm looking forward to a nice long run with the Taco. So far I only have about 250 miles on it, but I'm really digging it so far.

Thank you. Probably just a small lift, and tires eventually. I suspect full replacement bumpers front and back. Nothing too crazy, .. but you know how that goes sometimes. Just a good daily driver with some respectable trail traits.

Welcome to TW! I wonder if I can get away with telling my wife about respectable trail traits. It's worth a shot i guess. BTW, Nice Truck. Very respectable as is!

It's certainly worth a shot. My wife gave up on me, she just nods and says "whatever". Besides, how can she argue, she has a 4:1 t-case & 4:56 gears in her ride..

" Nothing to crazy " famous words... I said that when I got my 06.. " just a revel lift and 31s " haha now I've thrown money into it, and still have parts to install. Plus other parts on order. If you can keep it to " nothing crazy " your a strong man. Haha but, whatever you do. Do it right the first time. Don't change suspension lifts in an out like me haha. Be sure to post pics on what all you do. I'm still trying to figure out how to start a build page and get pics from all I've done.

I hear ya, buddy. What's even worse is my cousin owns an off road shop, so he sells me stuff at his cost. It's sort of like a blessing and a curse, all in one. :D Mostly it will depend on what I do with some of my other current rigs. I want to keep my K5 for my dedicated trail rig, but if I end up selling it off, then the Tacoma stands zero chances of staying "mild".

Oh damn. Yea that's both a curse and blessing. But more of a plus in the mind of mods. Get some good stuff for both rigs. Either way there are guys who lift they're tacomas and are pavement princesses. You'd be just fine with your plans you've already got. But I'd steer clear of spacer lifts. Just my opinion. Plans on tires?

For now I'll probably get some life out of the stockers. In the future, I may see about going up to 33/285 range. It depends. I'll probably see what others have done here in the forums, and get a feel for what looks like a good set up, lift height and tire size.

My cousin bought a new FJ about 2 months ago, and he's already got it up on a 6" fabtech w/ 36's. Looks pretty sweet too. Replacement front and rear bumpers, and painted the white roof tan to match the body.

That's a sharp lookin FJ! I like that color too. Been debating painting my tacoma that color.
Stock tires you can probably get about 60k or so with them. If they are the rugged terrain. If you change the rims, be sure to get the censor valve steems out of the stock rims and get them installed in the after markets. Little FYI I failed on lol. Yea check out the 2nd gen builds and do some comparisons on tires. Here's the website I use just to scope out different tires and ratings.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look around there. I won't change wheels anytime soon, if at all. I am thinking about derping those puppies though. If I like them, then I may keep them. I've got to get some of the basics done first. Tint the front windows, and I really need to pick some matts because I live out of town, and spend plenty of time on dusty dirt roads. That black carpet will never look clean if I don't get some weather techs or something like that. But if I do change wheels later on, thanks for the reminder about the censors. It could easily be overlooked.[/QUOTE]

Yea basics first then forward from there. Little odds and ends. Something that might help is a list. But that might get out of hand in a way. Start small with tint and interior stuff. Then go from there. It'll come along.
