Over the last year or so I have had three hub caps stolen. I had been blaming my mechanics after oil change/tire rotation. Irritating, I hate theft!

If they are on before the oil change and they aren't after... how do you not prove that?

It is likely not put back on correctly or tight. They fall off shortly after service work.

Hubcaps are not a real hot item to be stealing.

They just deny it, period. What am I going to do, take legal action for the cost of a hubcap? I appreciate your replies but I am mostly venting. I have one left and I think I'll just take it off.
I get so sick of hearing about the dog eat dog economy and how competition makes for better service, it is a farce.

Why are you paying someone to do oil changes and tire rotations?

Well, I think I am going back to doing my own. It is sometimes tough to deal with the used oil and I get busy. I am still not really convinced rotating tires saves much in the long run on tires.

Did you just call capitalism a farce? "dog eat dog" economy makes it so you can go to another shop that doesn't steal shit and get your oil changed there... I don't understand why this is such a problem. Don't blame the economy or competition for stealing your hubcaps, i'm pretty sure that same economy wouldn't move your hubcaps anyway; very few people buy them anymore.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Atlas Shrugged.

5280, This has happened three separate times with three separate shops so apparently the competition doesn't work.
Yes, I have read Atlas Shrugged, another farce, full of simple opinions of the author with no real basis in fact or evidence that backs any of their opinions. Do you subscribe to all the author's views?

If shops are "stealing" your hubcaps, which aren't worth more than $20 to begin with, try another shop. I have a very hard time believing 3 different shops would steal 3 different hubs, but maybe so?

I subscribe to the fact that competition makes most things better and those who refuse to compete should not get my handouts. Charity should not be mandated or legislated.

Imagine if your employer (i'm guessing from your name you are in landscaping?) had to lower your hours just because someone "didn't want to didn't like dog-eat-dog atmosphere".

Clearly you haven't owned a business before because if you had, you would love competition. Personally, after the first time, I would take the hubs off before you go into the shop; why didn't you try that?

If you decide to post something without any sort of question or content to add, don't be surprised if people call you out on your BS. My suggestion would be to stop blaming other people and move on.

I'm unsubing from this and moving on before mods step in. Have a good day.

If it was that important to you then you would have said something to the mechanic when the first one went missing, not waiting. Not, also coming and posting it on TW. What are the chances of them just coming off? They are not held on there very well. Maybe you should look at other variables then just assuming someone stole them. You don't have any proof. I guess it's better to blame someone then to blame yourself. I hope you made a police report, you know, since you think it's theft.

Well you're coming to TW and complaining and excusing someone of taking something of yours without any proof. Why not take legal action? I am sure that the justice system would love that? We get sick of people making dumb threads but you know, we still read, listen, educate(if possible). I guess you don't do a lot of business(or ever owned a business) with people and don't see the difference in service from place to place. You saying "it's a farce" is just idiotic.

I think we are all missing a very important question here...

    ...what tacoma has hubcaps?
Even base models don't have hubcaps...

At least in this thread...and you had such a decent history going...

Maybe he put on some old Toyota car rims. Since his mechanic, possibly stole hubcaps they might have put car rims on his truck.

Haha I didn't even think about that... I have never seen hub caps on a taco, but I just assumed AutoZone sold them, along with a bunch of other crap no one needs on their truck. If OP is trolling, he definitely got me good.

whether you call it a hub cap or center cap it really makes not difference. a center cap covers the hub so that makes it a hubcap correct?

that being said.... at my shop we photograph the shit out of every vehicle that comes in before doing any work to it. you would be suprised at the amount of people that claim damage was caused by us and then i have a time stamped photo showing the damage being there previouly.

To some people it does make a difference. If you ever had a full hub cap, would you call it a center cap? If you said that to other people, they wouldn't know what you were talking about, or they'd assume you were talking about the center cap. Would you call a car with two doors and a hatch, 2 door hatchback or three door?

I am not surprised that you have to take pictures for everything that comes in. Some people will just try to get anything out of someone. If I owned a business I'd be doing it too. You can never be too careful.
