I really need your guys help. I got my truck over a week ago and there is a clunking/popping sound coming from under the truck. It happens with or without my foot on the brake. I have searched and searched but found nothing leading me to the answer. I have looked for loose parts under the truck to no avail.

I recording the sound, please have a listen, http://s7.photobucket.com/user/outkastland/media/VID_20130822_173123_zpscdf0f816.mp4.html

Any ideas? Has this same sound happened with your Taco? If so, what was the cause? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Check the U-joints on the drive shaft for play or roughness, they could be bad or dry of grease.

Took some photos of them and the area around them. It looks to me like its lost grease and oil.

Your just seeing the excess grease that gets flug around the driveshaft after greasing... nothing to worry about. As far as the clunk/popping sound is it happening only when you first start out while backing up? If so you might be hearing the brake pads shifting... completly normal for these trucks and well documented here.

check your leaf springs. i know several people here that get a clunking/popping noise and they broke a leaf on the spring pack

I'm not sure but check the U-bolts to see if they are good and tight, also the leaf springs for cracks or damage like Matt said. How many miles are on the truck?

I had your same exact issues and it turned out to be the u joints on the drive shaft. Inside of the u joints there are these needle bearings. Mine were so worn they turned to dust. Do you have a shudder on your takeoffs? I got all of mine changed to upgraded greasable ones and it feels like a new truck. Cost about $100.

Does this sound occur when you reverse and then pull forward? Or vice versa?

Mine does that clunk sound during those times. I never heard it during normal driving though.
