Yeah I don't see it either. I think if your Texas you would want a young high profile coach to build the program around for the foreseeable future and Briles doesn't fit that bill IMO. He will most likely retire in 5 years.

I think you're right. From what I understand, Briles isn't a big fan of Texas either.

    No to dabo.
I think we need an established experienced coach at this point.
Not opposed to major he knows the ins and outs of the program but he might have too much Mack brown in him for now. Get a big name proven winner to get us back on track let major go hone his skills somewhere else for a few years and then come back and take his rightful place on the throne. He's already a god here to most of us but he needs a few years to get his own thing going.

I don't see a coach making the switch to a school in the same conference as the one they are already in

Dabo is young, but he's been kicking ass and taking names at Clemson. Think of what he could do w/ resources at Texas.

From all I've heard, Saban isn't interested in building another program... He'll either retire at Alabama or try the NFL again. I don't think his ego will allow him to chance failure in the NFL again, though.

What other coach is established and experienced enough, with the kind of success you want?

I was blaming the O line but that fumble was a huge turning point. I didn't catch it at the time but was watching ESPN's film room and they showed how he had Marshall flanked out to the left as his outlet with nobody within 20 yards of him. All he had to do was dump it off to him and we would have had a big play. That was the type mistake a first year QB would make, not a 5 year senior.

Wasn't Tubberville at Ole Miss before Aub? Also Houston Nutt was at Arkansas before Ole Piss.

Money is a hell of a thing.

About Dabo: exactly. He's young, energetic, and would crap himself if he had Texas' resources.

Lol @ Saban in the NFL. No way.

I'm kinda torn about Saban being willing to leave Alabama. He knows he has a good thing there, he'll probably create a dynasty and go down in both NCAA and Alabama history, and I'm sure the state of Alabama would gladly put forth a tenth of the state budget to keep him. With that being said, I've gotten the impression that he gets bored quickly. Shrug. Who knows? College football is a fickle bitch.

Nutt resigned from Arkansas amid some rumors and allegations but Tuberville did jump ship

I bet Kirby Smart wouldn't mind taking over Texas.

This. Smart would be a great hire for the Longhorns.

    What, for DC or HC?

The night and day difference of quality of defense between his coordinating and Diaz's would be hysterical.

I'm not sure I'm sold on him being HC. Not saying he can't, but someone has to convince me.

DC. It would be a lateral move though and I doubt he would leave Nick Saban for Mack Brown. Smart needs to prove himself at a smaller program as a HC in my opinion. UT is too good of a school to rid themselves of a bad coach and to take a risk on someone who hasn't proven himself.

What would they have to lose?

They would gain an immense culture change on the defensive side of the ball. More than likely, Smart could convince one hell of an OC to join him.

If Texas could do it, Chris Peterson at Boise State would be a better hire. Heck, Mike Gundy nearly jumped ship on Okie State last year, give him enough money and he might ditch them this off season.

Rich Rod could also be a decent hire too.
