Moving from Alabama to Texas (right now) is not a lateral move. He's the DC of one of the country's best defenses on a team that's won 3 of 4 national championships. His goal (like anybody in his position) is to be a HC. He's more likely to become a HC from his current position than if he takes a chance on trying to fix the cluster fu** in Austin right now. If it's not the HC job, he won't go to Texas.

Mike Gundy might be radioactive if what Sports Illustrated is reporting is true.

    LOLz.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
After this horrible start, he may not have a choice.

    Okay, this I can buy.

So here's the caviat: we have all seen NCAA & NFL coordinators become HC's only to crash and burn like the Hindenburg. I definitely agree that Smart has to prove himself in a small program before he holds the reins of a larger one like UT. Be that as it may, if he were to come to UT I think that would signal a fundamental shift in thinking at Forty Acres. For one, it wouldn't be a Mack or DeLoss hire. It would be the Big Cigars, the boosters who control the strings. Get a DC like Smart and it'll be a very short matter of time before a heavy hitter of a OC joins. Unfortunately, in order to do any of this, I think ultimately Mack has to retire from HC and either DeLoss takes a hike or his arm gets twisted into submission and relinquishes and effective contact and control over UT Football.

Peterson would be interesting. Would it be worth risking a few seasons? Maybe not, but then again what do we have to lose? Can't be worse than what's in place. Gundy would be a riot. Same thing goes for him as Peterson. He's a loose cannon but definitely not in the same genocidal league as the walking powderkeg that's Nebraska's coach.

    Lol no.

    Man that's low.

Yea, that's why I figured if anyone gave him a shot, he would bolt like he did at UT.

I thought the shit with DeForrest was before Gundy's time? Or are you referring to the fact that Gundy's name is still associated with a program that's about to implode into a black hole of NCAA and media "investigation"?

Although he was co-DC when we won our national title, I feel these are appropriate:

You guys don't think Rich Rod is good? He helped us beat Michigan in the Gator bowl. As for the move to Texas being a lateral move, I was speaking in terms of it being another historical powerhouse. But if you think that Smart would be a good head coach, many here in Starkville would gladly welcome him.

Rich Rod is kinda like a Thai hooker: looks good from afar but you never know what you're gonna get once you start paying.

Boogers are still paying him another few years so he's probably wanking it on a boat somewhere. Plus, as much as I hate texas, I hope they'd be intelligent enough to see he'd be Mack 2.0

He didn't have to coach here to help us beat Michigan. His play calling helped us beat them a few years back in the gator bowl. He was fired shortly after that game.

    well played!

His offense at Clemson was good...but it was never good ENOUGH to get us over the hump and take a step forward

Depending on how Arizona does this year, I expect him and Petrino to find better jobs.
