OMG my sister in law has her horses at the ranch in the stable on Morgan Territory. She got her own horses but her friends need help getting theirs. There are too many horses and not enough trailers. They won't let the residents go back to get their belongings and animals because they blocked the roads. The horses trapped in the stables. They can't even run. She's going to call me tonight to help try to get her friends stuff. My little babytruck is going to grow up fast.

    That's so sad! :(
That happened to us in San Diego in 2003 and 2007. People would spray paint their phone numbers on their horses and just let them loose. They had the national guard blocking the roads, keeping people from going back for their horses. My girlfriend's neighbor and friend was blocked from going back for their horses and was broken down in tears. They had too many horses for the space in their trailers. So depressing
Now my girlfriend and her mom always have trailers ready during the fire season.
They have some crazy stories of being evacuated.

I send my thoughts to your sister in law, Siu, and all those affected by the fire. Good luck and be safe helping her!

    Thank you

Smart idea to paint the horses. But I guess for them it's too late. Sorry that you and they had to go through that. Did they ever find the some of the horses?

Thank you. It's a good thing I figured out how to use my 4wd button before hand, I'd be panicking trying to figure it out when I need it the most. I'm also worried about an old bull that my sister in law has. The goats can run away, they are only fenced it and they can get out if needed. But Elvis the one eared bull is kind of old and slow. He hangs out with the goats on the ranch. He thinks he's a goat.

Just got this sent to me:

Back to the fire on Morgan Territory. Hearing a horse ranch is on fire. Horses might still be there (not confirmed). People are evacuating the area. Stay tuned for more.

Thats some bullshit, time to put babytruck in 4 wheel and go off road to get there. They cant stop you legally. Property is property and you would not stop me. At least let the horses out to fend for themselves.

No they are literally blocked off and there are fire truck trucks, equip, and personnel all up in there. I think you can get into trouble for hindering their work. It's just not safe at all.

I just got this sent to me:

FIRE UPDATE: According to sources, no horses have died. This latest flare-up on Morgan Territory was apparently caused by wind. We have reports of a few buildings being burned. Not sure if they are houses or outbuildings (sheds, etc.). One person on scene says the latest flare-up seems to be under control (cross your fingers).

Still waiting for a call from my sister in law though. I'm going to try to get some sleep with the phone next to me.

Yeah, like what babytruck said, they actually physically block the roads to prevent people from going in for their safety. For us it was humvees and guards armed with automatic rifles instead of firetrucks and equipment. I definitely would be pissed if it was my house and animals on the other side of that road block, though.

I hope they're working heavily on those houses!
    Fingers crossed

    Just be careful!
My girlfriend and her mom say that Tacoma's SHOULD NOT pull a horse trailer of any size, regardless of engine power. It's the brakes that they don't trust.
    That's what they say.
Now in this situation, I would do it anyways and maybe they would, too, just be careful about braking.
Of course, I don't know much about what you've done to your truck towing-capacity wise, or anything much about towing, but that's what they would say if they were reading over my shoulder.
Don't want to see you guys in a Tacoma-horse trailer accident because your brakes failed to stop the trailer.

They are for sale! I haven't put any of the parts I have sitting around up anywhere, I'm to lazy and they are already in storage. You looking for some bedsides?

Thank you Chris but the trailers they have are the huge kind that hold two horses and tack. The trucks they use are the 250 or 350 and dually and they have that thingy where you connect the trailer to the middle of the bed, so there is not way to connect them to our trucks. The problem is not enough trailers. My sister in law alone has 7 horses, 2 mini horses, a bunch of goats, I think 7 dogs and the bull. She was able to get out her horses but there are more still at the ranch.

They need my babytruck to help haul personal belongings of the owners.

Just got notification from my niece. They are all waiting where they blocked it off and are trying to get the guy to let them in.

I know you'd do it, and you have. I remember your story of when you picked up the rocks and were 1500 or 2000lbs over the truck's capacity. But you're crazy anyways :p
My girlfriend's response would be something along the lines of: "This is not rocks or a bobcat, this is a living being and part of someone's family." - Of course, that's in the "normal towing" discussion, not emergency towing discussion.

But I trust you over most other tacoma owners when it comes to towing.

And check out calfire.blogspot.com for fire updates. Their post regarding this fire is farther down the page, but they have a lot of info on it.
Here's the post specifically for this fire: http://calfire.blogspot.com/2013/09/ca-scu-morgan-fire-near-clayton-morgan.html

This is what her trailer looks like. Well, and her truck too. But this is not hers, this is off the internet.

well yeah, what did you think someone with 2 or more horses used to haul them around? each one will weigh in between 1000-2000 pounds. I know our tacos can do a lot but when it comes to moving stuff like horses, you better have 8 cylinders.
