Just brought my Tacoma in for a 5000 miles service. It is free and service include oil change, tires rotation, and top off fluids. I was told service time is 1hr 15mins because it is a truck. Why do they need so much time? I can get all those done in 30mins with a lift. I guest it is free service so they take their time lol. Well I'm bored here at the waiting room so just want to post something on the forum.

I just had my first 5k service done last week... They had my truck for like three hours though to look at a few little quirks and see if they could do any thing about em. Drive line shudder (truck is bone stock), windshield howl, ac clutch squeal. Looks like I will be goin at my carrier bearing on my own, and they couldnt replicate the other two. Told me to video it and show em next time I bring it in... guess I will bring video evidence and make a bigger stink when I go in for my 10k. My girl went with me and she wanted to go to the mall while we waited so they gave me a ride in the shuttle van, so thats how I killed my time. Oh they washed my truck too. So it didnt seem like too over the top as far as time they spent with my truck. I guess an hour and a half is a little excessive for your situation... oh well, it was free.

Just curious freddirt, which dealership in Utah did you take your truck to? I want to take mine in for the driveline vibe too.

It's better to see they are taking their time and doing in right I hope than to see them hurry the job and screw something up. As easy as the oil change is on these trucks it always takes me a little over an hour to do mine. I usually check fluids and inspect truck while the oil is doing it's slow drain..drip..drip...drip....drop. You can't hurry a good thing. Just be glad they are not charging you by the HOUR. :D

Not sure why it takes so long. But I'm also not sure why everyone thinks it's free? You paid for it...

It usually takes them 2 hours to do mine.......because I go in there with a mental list of complaints/questions/inquires about the truck or issues that the truck has. I am a pain in their ass.

A lot of dealerships now have 2 separate service stations. The full service, where the techs and master techs work on serious issues, and a quick service, where the apprentice techs just do oil changes and tire rotations. Likely they will put a new guy on your truck, and it will take him 45 mins just to find the oil filter....

The only time I went in for my "free" oil change, I also raised a stink about a squeaky clutch pedal. So they booked it in to the full service side, and *hopefully* one of the more seasoned techs did the oil change along with the other stuff I wanted them to look at.

I just rolled 2000 miles on mine. Debating whether to go get the 5000mi service early. I've got a squeak/rattle in the driver door that I'd like them to check, but I fear they'll do more harm than good when they investigate it.

    5100's all around. Front's set at 1.75" 265/75/16 Duratracs.
I just called about the 5k service on my 2013 DCSB and they told me they wouldn't change the oil until 10k but this time they would do the inspection and rotate the tires and whatnot. Seems like everyone else is getting their oil changed at 5k even with full synthetic. Is the dealership pulling my chain or are they right under the toyota service plan?

Take your maintenance schedule in with you at 5000 miles or 6 months and tell them that they are not authorized to change the Toyota Scheduled Maintenance. Insist that they follow the schedule.

If you have to do this make sure you check everything before leaving the dealer. I would personally just go to another dealer as I wouldn't trust them any longer.

sales guy told me that too. He was wrong at least on a 4.0. Tacoma 4.0s use conventional oil changed every 5000. The service writer said it was correct for a 4 cyl.

The manual on my 2WD regular truck says 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Just took mine by last weekend for the 5K mile free service. They wanted to charge me $40 for full synthetic, so I told them to just change the oil with conventional. It took them 1.5 hours (just for the inspection and oil change; I passed on the tire rotation and wash). I got home to find oil all over the lower oil pan and the filter drain nipple cover was missing. After cleaning their mess up, I went to Walmart and got 5 quarts of M1 full synthetic for $24 (I've got another 7-8 quarts at the house). Then I ordered 2 OEM filters and drain plug gaskets off Amazon. After that, I got a 4-pack of 5/16" vacuum caps (to use as nipple cover).

I've changed my own oil forever, but figured I'd take them up on the "free" service...definitely NOT worth the trip.
