I just saw this and it now has me thinking LT:

LT makes a truck a decent crawler, right?

I'll have to find pictures. Somebody was crawling up at Moab with LT.

I'm definitely going to have to do the research on the glass. The lines on that 2nd Gen look sweet. Have to find something that has the right lines for the 1st Gens.

It comes down to the difference between a solid axle conversion vs. a LT kit. The long lever arm created by that solid axle allows lots of flex so the chassis "floats" over rocks.

Have to do some research to see the cost differences. A good portion of the expense in an LT is redoing the rear suspension and the subsequent shock "cage" most guys end up building.

I'm just daydreaming about the next steps with the truck. Definitely want it to be a good crawler but not sure I'm prepared go through with replacing the IFS with a solid axle.

Still considering a Marlin Crawler Lefty transfer case. 4.71 crawl ratio would be awesome.

I understand... personally I figured I'd get my taco as close to LT as possible... have fun with it and then get a 4x4 way later down.. Since Im going to be in a desert area for awhile, here... phoenix... might as well lol... I just dont have the know hows to do a cage.. but that's a bit further than I would ever go.. Glass, and the LT kit is what I would do.. also replace my rear bumper with cloudy's rear bumper

Yeah, that's what's enticing. Can do the front end for the cost of a kit and my own labour. The rear shock cage would need massive fab help or a shop to do it.

Solid axle would take some serious labour beyond my current knowledge and tools.

That and it'd be fun to be able to go 70mph out at the Puerco then crawl up the Waterfall.

Doing LT on yours would be a tiny bit cheaper. Don't have to worry about the CV axles.

Somewhere in there, probably need to grease the Zerks on the front UCAs and lube the uniball. Might need to tear the rear springs back apart and regrease them. Probably do that when you replace the U-bolts.

One thing I'm happy I had the option of Icon UCAs and their low-profile uni-ball. They finally came out with caps to keep the crap out. Was tired of cleaning out the dirt every weekend.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning back towards a solid axle. Have to do some heavy research on kits. I like everything about the TG one except they use leaf springs in the front. Really want to stick with coils.

Hell, after talking to Nick (BigFishAllDay) for half an hour when he stopped in, I was seriously considering trying to find a 4Runner frame to replace the Taco frame with to get the coil sprung rear-end. They are fully boxed frames as well. No idea if the shape is close enough though.

depends. Longterm ownership has its advantages as opposed to throwing money away to a property management company.
