I'm pretty sure that a 70mm throttle body would overwhelm the little 2.7 especially when nothing else in the intake system is designed to handle the flow. I got away with it on my Yaris only because I adapted a Corolla 1.8 manifold to fit the 1.5 engine.

When we did fourth gear dyno runs on the Tacoma, the speed limiter cut off the engine at about 4,800 rpm. So we did one 3rd gear dyno run to cheat the speed limiter so that the engine could go up to redline. And even though it was the last run on a burning hot engine at the hottest part of the day, The spacer still made 142 horsepower.

These were 3rd gear runs without the spacer where the very best run was the first when the engine was the coldest and yielded 147 horsepower. The other two hot engine runs were under closer conditions to the hot engine spacer run. So it's safe to say that the spacer only gave up 2 horsepower at the top. :)

Production of the spacers begins within a week. :)
The material is all ordered and paid for. I saw a machined sample of the nylon, and the feel and quality is superb. It looks exactly like flawless matte black anodized aluminum. It's super strong and really stiff, too.

The first batch of tooter II.VII's will be coming off the "assembly line" really soon! :)

Thanks for the info. I gave it some thought and decided to trade my truck in on an FJ. So far, I really like it better due to the room and the extra power.
Cancel me out on the spacer, and I hope in the future I see something your kicking out for the V6's. I believe your product will do tremendous knowing what I know about engines. Don't know why they haven't tried it before now. Back in the day they got a similar effect from space between the carb and manifold. Your idea, "More Effective" less chance of warping the seal between the carb and man due to heat transfer than the carb to man set up.

    All the best, Les

    Thanks, Les... :)
Between the manifold and the head is a good place to modify because it actually lengthens all of the intake runners instead of just making the plenum larger. The spacer is grooved identically as the intake manifold is, and accepts exactly the same OEM Toyota O ring gasket for a good reliable seal. I like using standard Toyota parts because they're always readily available.

And today we enjoy a distinct advantage over carbureted manifolds in that fuel is metered right at the intake valves...

...and after the spacer, so all the spacer does is handle air. :)

Ok. :) I'll add you to the interested list. It's not a commitment to buy. It just helps me to get a rough idea of about how many to have made up.

    Just an update...
No nylon blocks are coming until the middle of next week. :(

However, at least all of the mounting hardware is here to make up the kits... :)

I understand. Getting things production ready at a decent cost have lead times. Thanks for the update.

Interestingly enough, money has not been a factor in the delay, as I paid the going market rate up front for the nylon blocks (12 blocks @ $80 per block). Our order just got bumped because some larger company came in with a bigger order and cleaned out all of their stock. So far, I have $2,000 sunk into the project.

Still an extra week isn't too bad of a setback, as the total elapsed time from the very beginning when the project was conceived to today has only been 2 months and 1 week. My goal was to go from virtual concept to the reality of finished products ready for sale in 2 months.

I set the price as cheap as I could make it without actually having to take a loss:

$225 including shipping to the lower 48 states.

Minus my costs for the nylon blocks, CNC machining, gaskets, threaded studs, flange hex nuts, barrel hex nuts, and shipping... my net profit per unit comes to $42... or about 18%. All of the net profits from selling the first batch of a dozen will just cover my R&D costs ($500). So I'm happy to break even and to end up with a "free" spacer on my own truck. :)

This is a set of mounting hardware...

I was going to make 2 inch spacers for the lower two studs since there is nothing between the two lower arms of the intake manifold and the head, but decided that heavy barrel nuts would work much easier as they can be perfectly adjusted to hold the manifold at the proper attitude, and then the flange nuts can be tightened down against them to hold the lower arms securely.

    Hey Max, :)

I won't take your money for a product that doesn't even exist yet, let alone isn't ready to ship, but I can put you on the list for a spacer out of the first batch.
