I recently purchased my first "starter" tacoma as a tester and daily commuter. It has 160k, double cab.

So far I like it a lot. When I decide to trade this one out, I'm buying a newer used one, hopefully with under 30k miles on it.

My intent here is to learn as much as I can. The only thing I've done on it is change the air-filter to a K&N. I was contemplating between that and a Wix.

Besides that, I just learned that it has a timing belt... For some odd reason I thought it had a timing belt and was about to purchase a kit from Rock Auto. Good thing I held back. Still doing research.

Any other upgrade/maintenance recommendations you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to learning all I can about these trucks. Been shifting from Chevy to Toyota now.

True to some extent. For starters, I disagree with Chevrolets bail out... Corporations shouldn't make tax payers bail them out.... However, pee-bail out Chevy vehicles I still have are a 66 chevelle SS 396 & an 87 el camisole SS, love me both.

Although this is my starter tacoma, I've made the decision to purchase a newer one once the time comes to sell this one. It's an awesome truck... I know my wife will want me to sell the el camino.... I may have to.

    Semper Fidelis!

Classic chevy's will always have a special place in my heart.

    I had a 71 Nova with a big block & an 86 monte with a 383. I'm still waiting for a 70 chevelle to come around :D

Nice on the stroker 383. I'm from CA and rebuilt the 305 & tranny. Added everything I could aftermarket while keeping it smog legal. I know I posted 87 but its actually an 84 with 87 mirror mod. I also shaved the door handles and gas tank. I'll post some photos when I get some time. Part of the reason I purchased the tacoma was b/c the el camino is getting a paint job. I'm doing all the work myself. Hoping to have finished it before the Marine Corps PCS'd me, I was stuck on primer when I ran into a few snags like a sagging driver side door and minor body work on a panel. I hoping to get her done and on the road by spring time. Other stuff I did was powder coat all the motor brackets, edelbrock intake, heads, air cleaner etc, after I through a street compcams in it. Also has dual flow master exhaust with CA legal headers. Through a shift kit in it while we were rebuilding the tranny. 2" cowl hood... Can't wait to get her rolling.
