Colinb17's kinda sorta build thread - now with 4-link and long travel

so does anyone know what the blue and white wires on the harnesses for these guages are for? the schematic states that they don't need to be hooked up for the gauge to work. it then goes on to state that the blue one is a 5v hookup. makes me think that it's a remote wire like what you'd have on an amp or something. is it for dimming the gauges with your dash lights or something?

i'm lost when it comes to those two wires

Data logging if u have something capable of it

 

gotcha, so that's what i run to a serial port to log directly to R4? i won't, because i wouldn't know how to adjust my MAP based on the data. just curious.

 

i guess. i know if you EMS has a hook up for data acquasition then u hook them up to that or if you have a data loggin device thats what u hook it up to. would have to get the pinouts for you device to see what you need to do

 

I think the white cable had a couple of numbers asociated with it on the schematic, i'd guess that's refferencing the standard pin it would go to.

either way, that's a little beyond me, especially since all i have is the MAF cal.

just wanted to make sure it wsn't to dim the backlight. if those turn out to be too bright i guess i can always pop them open and swap out for a dimmable LED and then hook it seperately into my dash lights.

also got power run to the gauges.
AFR isn't actually hooked up, it just reads 14.7 by default when the sensor isn't connected.

 

That's a good looking jack.

 

Can you move your hi lift mounts further to the rear so you can mount it fully retracted without the base hitting the cab? Or is there a reason you mounted it like that?

If i mount the jack level, i could slide that forward mount back a little and mount the jack fully retracted. it's not like that, because if i mount it level, then the jack becomes very exposed to trees when I wheel. I've leaned the bedrack into trees before, and it can take it, but i would hate for the jack to be the first point of contact and bend/break part of it. the solution was to mount it at an angle, to keep it inside the upper rails of the rack. as a result, the lower jaw of the jack tilts down, and in the fully lowered position, hits the headache rack portion of the bedrack.

here's a decent picture of how it's tilted. you can see how the jaw would hit if you slide it down (forward)

 

Does your rack attach to your frame at all? If not, I'm surprised the bed holds up to the trees.

Gotcha! That 60'' is long as hell, although my 48'' barely fits along the front of the bed anyway.

Yeah they are! I managed to fit mine into my toolbox but it is at an angle just to fit and the toolbox goes over the bed rails.
