work truck suspension refresh..

can you guys recommend me a front and rear suspension for my 2001 Tacoma prerunner 2wd access cab with a lumber rack?? Its getting close to 180k mi's and looking for new suspension. I prefer stock height or maybe and 1" or 1.5" so I can fit 265/75/16's. rear suspension needs to be able to handle heavy loads. thanks!!

I don't mind spending the money for the setup I want. The truck is due for a refresh anyways.

 

In that case either a full Old Man Emu set up from someplace like Wheelersoffroad.com or Downsouthmotorsports.com, both are pretty well liked by folks here at TW, or Dakar springs and Bilstien 5100's all around, toss in some Toyotec 885 front springs and you're looking sweet....BUT no set up is gonna handle massive load forever, consider some Firestone Ride Rite Airbags, don't even have to go all out with the compressor, I keep a bike pump for mine, best money I ever spent and ask anyone here, I am the KING of overloading a Tacoma

 

Thanks for the recommendations. I was getting really lost in all the lifts available. Seems most suspension are for 3" lift. It can be a pain having a lifted work truck, loading and unloading. I prefer stock height or as close as possible.

Any experience with timbrens? I don't really want to deal with pumping up the airbags when needed

 

The 5100's can be adjusted in the front .85, 1.75, 2.5 and 3, i think, the higher you go on stock springs, the harsher the ride. I have no experience with the timbrens. I carry a constant load of about 650 lbs, I leave the bags anywhere from 10-15 pounds most of the time, I don't pump it up until I hit the 1500lbs+ mark......in a half-ton truck.

 

If I were you I would go with the toytec ultimate kit or the OME since they both are great kits to go with and are what you seem to be looking for

 

So, how's this setup sound??

front: bilstein 5100 with 881
rear: 5-pack leaf spring from wheelers, bilstein 5100

 

the toytec kits give a 3" lift for the rears

 

I am looking into lifting my truck soon so the bilstein 5100s all around is the best budget set up and I am getting mine in the next few months

 

Go OME. Get the kit from Wheelers offroad with their 5 packs by Alcan

881 OME coils and Wheelers 5 packs. Nitrocharger shocks all around. Or you could get the Dakars.

Great kit. Very straight forward. Wheelers will even assemble the coilovers if requested. Will last a long time and very dependable.

 

Firestone RideRites have an electric pump. Simply flip a switch to the desired psi a done. Otherwise you are building your suspension for an empty bed or a full bed and deal with the changes. You can get 5100's with decent springs and use the air bags to maintain level under load. I've installed them in my buddies truck and it only took a few hours at home.

 

The truck will have a fully welded lumber rack, along with tools and misc. materials. I will look into the airbags, since it was mentioned here a few times.

I emailed wheelers for a recommendation, but haven't heard back yet.
