I'll be at the river camp below Selma this weekend, I put my tag on this gator last year a couple miles south of our camp on the AL river. Needless to say, I don't fuck around in the water around there no mo! This aint even the one we were after but it's hard to tell a 13 ft plus from a 12 ft plus and no one wants to measure them while they're still alive!

Nah, I had the head freeze dried which was $650 alone, gave the rest away to someone who wanted to have the hide tanned which was another $1350 and I didn't want to put that much into a smaller gator. The ones under 8or9 feet taste better anyway!

You have A/C in the barracks??? DANG they are getting soft. I spent a month in the Mohave with 120+ and we had no A/C anywhere except the PX where we were. Basic training had no A/C either.

    Gator tail is the best!

Those are the Treadwright 285/75R16 tires for my truck! YAY! Now I just need to get my wheels! And after resting them up against my truck I think I may be forced to do a tiny amount of trimming....just a little bit.

Sweet! Don't forget to have them Static balanced (If I remember correctly), that's what Treadwright recommends.

Dynamic balance is the way to go. Static balance sucks.

Treadwright builds them to static balance. If you balance them any other way, they won't balance out. If you don't mind wobbly tires, then I'm sure other types of balancing are fine. :)

why not ceramic beads....i'm doing those on my next set of tires for sure! never could get my tires to balance good even when i did them at NTB. i spent a hour trying to balance the coopers then gave up and didn't even bother trying to balance the KM's cause they were bigger.

I've only ever owned one set of tires that balanced out perfectly, and they were my static balanced Treadwrightes.

The key is learning the difference between a static and dynamic balance.

Static balance only takes into account "up-and-down" imbalance. i.e. "wheel hop"

Dynamic balance includes static type balance, but also includes "wobble" or side-to-side imbalance issues.

This means that a dynamic balance is static balance + more. So not sure how a static balance can be any better. I usually end up going for the full-on road force balance which takes into account static, dynamic, and vehicle weight into account.

I know folks have varying degrees of success with the beads, and perhaps one of the ME's here can chime in (Cough cough, ahem, Paul, ahem...), but I would think that the beads would be unreliable at best.

They're going to settle in whatever the position of least resistance is, mechanically. If the point of mechanical least resistance also happens to be where the tire is the lightest, and a sufficient weight settles there, then they'd balance. Else, no.

That's a lot of crap to coincidentally line up for my money. I'm with Bill, I think a full road force is the way to go.

I'm no expert in balancing, but considering I listened to treadwright, and the tires balanced out perfectly, and rode perfectly, and they made the tires, I'm going to have to listen to the manufacturer.

    :p

No worries. Hey, if it works, it works. I was just referring to the difference between the types of balances out there.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
Yep. I'm about to bead my tires. Beads in a tire do nothing at lower speeds so no benefit there. Centripetal forces under acceleration force the beads against the tire. The faster you go, the more force the beads "lay" against the rubber and since they are round, they can roll to the point of "least resistance" to balance out the opposite forces. Forces always try to balance themselves out, if not react opposite to something.

A good road force balance is the best for just that: road force. The problem is though, on a vehicle that sees more off pavement time than on, you are constantly throwing the tires out of balance. not to mention weights suck off road.

-when you air down, your tire can and will rotate itself on the rim as you wheel thus displacing the weights and throwing the balance off
-rim or stick weights can break or get torn off completely on the trail, thus throwing the balance off
-rim weights can get hit and pushed into the tire, risking a flat on the trail.

My vehicle rides like shit cause I've managed to throw all my wheels out of balance.
