exactly what my set up is. HIDs up top above the B-pillar to prevent hood glare, and LEDs up front to flood the immediate surroundings.

yea got mine from advancedauto.com as a refurb. 135 bucks. Plus if you don't keep your old one you can get like 30 bucks pack or something for core. I kept mine for a spare and made a plugnplay harness for both so they swap in and out easily and kept the stock wiring.

You don't have to run some new wires here and there. but no you do not need a second battery for it.

    here is PN# P8132-1.3

here is a ton more info on it plus in my build you can see how i installed it.

The dual battery info is..well..self explanatory but here is a nice blunt thread that i liked [IMG]

pretty much me too. But i have a few halogens still too for fogs and my LF240s for main driving lights as they don't require warm up..and epic distance.

I love my LED light bars. The throw is plenty for me to go 50+ MPH in the wide open, but where it really excels is in the uniformity of the light and the wide spread. You can see every detail in the dirt and the wide spread (left, right, up, and down) is helpful when going up and down hills and around corners.

Plus the low profile mounting = less wind drag; and less wind drag = better MPG, quieter cab, and still fits in the garage.

It does give some glare, but it's not bright enough to be distracting or affect the driver's vision. Looks worse in the picture than it is in reality.

Here is the same spot with the stock headlights for comparison:

Hold on here!!! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here cause I'm a bit electrical stupid... But...

I have in my possession two 50" led bars. They're rated at 288Watts having 96 three watt LED's total.

Now I compare that to my four 35W HID's and well, my math says 35W*4=140W total.

My 4 HID's will give my 50" bar a run for it's money...

So explain to me where that statement that I've seen SO many people say comes from? I'm not saying LED's are crap, in fact now that I have them, I really like them. Like said above, combined with HID's they're bitchin!!! Or on something like my expo (and as shown in the perfect example directly above this post) a single 40-50" bar is more light then it'll ever need but to say LED's are less draw... Please enlighten me.

Cause with my math... If my 50" bar puts out 288Watts, that tells me I could run EIGHT 35W HID's and still be a hair short of the draw that single led bar is pulling.

Now if we're comparing halogen, yes, no brainer here... But who's really arguing that Halogen is where it's at when HID technology is so dirt cheap these days?

yea i think that statement is assuming smaller bars. Most people run 20-30'' bars not 50''.

But your right that your 50'' draws more power then your 35w HIDs..But there are some more factors too that have to do with efficiency and such and peak draw and average.

one thing is for sure the LED bar will out last the truck and the HIDs wont.

    that said..come one..55w HIDS! haha :p

when it comes to high output bars, LEDs do take a lot of draw. however, LEDs are superior to HIDs in the way that they are more reliable, less components to break, and can be turned on and off rapidly without damage, which is why strobes use LED now. I have my LEDs hooked up to my flash to pass, not HIDs, because they are full brightness almost immediately, and do not cause excessive wear and tear on the ballasts.

When I turn my HIDs on, they stay on for a long time. I dont like to turn them on and off. That's what my LEDs are for.

    You figure it as
    Halogen 12-19 lumens per watt
    hid 100 lumens per watt
led 110 lumens per watt better or worse depending on the grade of the led.

LEDs have bin ratings it much like the clarity of a diamond. For example a top bin led may put out 800-1100 raw lumens for a 10 watt led, while a bottom bin may only put out 125 raw lumens.
When you combine the raw lumens with at how high they are driven, and purity of the optics it will give you the actual output.
    Example
    1000 lumen bulb x driven to 90% = 900 lumens x optic purity 98% = 882 lumen actually out put.
Some companies will give you what the bulb is capable of as opposed to giving you what the light is actually putting out. Its kinda like power at the crank and rear wheel horse power.

When people use LED are more efficient for the most part they are talking about halogen lights, and optic purity. LEDs can be focused a lot better than a halogen or HID. Controlled optics of an LED will give 15% more effective light over an HID.

We do a lot of lighting for the mining industry. So when you look at something like the vision x pitmaster 30. They are replacing 400-500 watt high pressure sodium lights which put out somewhere around 6000 lumens with a light that puts out 14,790 lumens and consumes 150 watts so you have 70% reduction in power consumption and more than double the light.

It all comes down to usable effective light, not just what the bulb is putting out.

Only 2 visionx bars.... can't compare the junk Chinese optics to a quality optic. 55k lumens I believe on the 53" bar, and it's only a 22" on the bumper
