What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Did you use a hot air gun and push the heater duct a little bit back? I did that & my CB now sits very flush with the center dash piece/lower din space.

 

When I took mine apart to try and get it tuned, I had to hastily put it all back together. Now for some reason my trim piece for the radio doesn't line up right and my cb won't stay in the correct position. Been too lazy to try to take it apart and put back together in the rain...

I haven't really looked at it much, how easily can one access the inside of that panel?

 

That's what I'm sayin, tho... compare the same woofers in different sizes, and the larger will always put out more bass volume! Why else would the manufacturers produce woofers larger than 8"?!? If 8s were the best, then I think the manufacturers would just stop there.

No need to say sorry... that's all real good stuff, but

When comparing a subwoofer to the exact same in a larger size, you can't tell me that the larger woofer doesn't put out more bass volume.
The truth is the more surface area you have, the more area you move and the more volume you have. <--That's just truth, period. So all other things considered equal — equal amplifier, same brand sub, same model — a single 10 isn't going to be louder than one 12 because the 12 has a lot more surface area. Also, there are plenty of 12-inch subs that, as a single unit, can produce a lot more volume than two 10s, but you're going to need a bigger amplifier and a higher-powered sub. Also, 12s and 10s produce completely different types of sounds. 10s are going to be punchy and 12s are going to be boom-y. Also you're going to have to consider the enclosure these speakers are in. If a 10-inch sub is in a vented enclosure, it's going to give a boom-ier, deeper sound. If you have a sealed enclosure, it's going to be tight. If you bring subs down to something even smaller like an 8, it's going to be even punchier. Taking all these variables into account, all things considered equal, one 12 is going to be louder than one 10.
And if you're implying that a 10 is crisper, then you're absolutely correct! But you're yo're giving up all that I stated above for that... unless you're pushing more than one woofer.
I'm not just going out there and saying that bigger is always better, as I strongly do not agree with that since I've seen 10s outperform 15s. But what I am saying is that bass volume is going to increase as size increases. To put out the same bass volume, you have to use more 10" woofers than 12" woofers!
But if you like the punchy sound, then a single 8 is what you like! And we fully understand that you like 8s, Monte! But for different sounding bass... Now that's all opinion based --> it's for each his own, and different strokes for different folks.

Dood, the 12" woofer is awesome! But in truth, I actually listen to the sub turned down quite a bit since I listen to country (no bass) and metal/rock (slight bass) the most! But when I wanna show off the power of this baby, man, it can really boom! I have had the opportunity to have two 8s, a single 10, and now a single 12 in my Tacomas (all at separate times), and for the diversity in music that I listen to, this 12 can do it all!

 

No I didn't get to do that. Mine sticks out about 1/4 to 1/2".

 

Yes a 12 will do high spls due to the larger surface area. BUT this is also why they sound so flubby and not as tight. Because the magnet has to move so much more stuf and the speaker has more momentum for the magnet to correct.

I never said a same make and model 8 vs 12 is gonna be louder. you will of course have to get a more powerful 8 to move the same amount of air as a 12. Im saying that you can get 8s that are just as powerful as 12s, take up less room and WILL ALWAYS sound better then any 12.

12s sound like shit honestly. They aren't accurte due to their size and are flubby and loose sounding.

Also if you listen to country and hard rock..you sooooooo should not have a 12. Good lord no. 8s would be MUCH better for those genres. Im guess you had eq issues or gain staging issue with the rest of your system or not good qualtiy subs/amps cause for country and rock. 8s are much better suited.

12s are like hip hop/dubstep super bass heavy all you care about hearing is 400Hz and below type music.

a 12 is stupid for our trucks. Hell a well powered 10 is over kill. i have dual 10s and sure, i have and can blast the shit out of it and flex the roof and blah blah blah. But..no one does that all the time. If you do..your deaf..really its not needed for the space of our cabs. So why would you plop a big ass 12'' sub that takes up lots and lots of room that isn't being used to move all the air it can, when you can have a BETTER sound more ACCURATE hitting sub that takes up less room and power and will be more efficient over all?

But it also all boils down to opinion and your own ears. Pretty much the majority of all people in the world don't care that much about audio quality. Long as they can hear it, its fine. If you like 12s. Good for you.

Im hear to tell you that i have been spending the last 3 years of my life training my ears to hear things you would NEVER look for when listening to music or..anything..and 12s..do NOT sound as good. But i have "tuned" ears..you don't so much. your ears have been shaped by your own life choices on if you have worn ear protection when its needed and by what you listen too and by what you have been listening to on. And that is fine.

Two dents connected will be difficult, if not impossible. The microscopic metal stretching in that situation is a major challenge. As for getting to the inside of that panel, I do not know for sure where that dent is. lol. Can't really tell.

 

He means that usually at some point when the sun heats the metal back up the dent will pop back. Thats why in TX you just keep your $300 bucks. Actually that is only possible when the dry ice method is used.

Hmm that sounds strange to me that the heat would just lower the metal back down into a dent after the metal has straightened. $300 bucks? That's for the other dent removal; dry ice is muuuuuuuch much cheaper than that lol

are you planning on lifting it? why not just go to the full 2.5? seems like a god aweful amount of work for nothing, replacing shitty stock coils with shity stock coils

 

Not really, i want about 1.5'' of lift, but 1'' would do, i'm getting some 31.5'' tires soon. and they might look a little small.

 

you wont even notice 1" of lift...

and 31" tires will also look small regardless

 

I'll set one at 1'', install it and see if i like it.

1'' should "level" out a brand new stock truck with no saggy suspension.
