I tell you, life is a funny thing. This January, the job was in the shitter the economy was/is tanking and I was facing a harsh decision of either selling or trading in my truck to save some money. March comes along, I get hit with a 10% paycut and a warning that the company has enough funds to stay afloat a year and there is nothing happening. I freak out, start cutting expenses including the truck. I get a Corolla S... Not bad, but its not a Tacoma. You might remember it, here is a link to the thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/31144-its-sad-day-tacoma-traded-thank-you.html

Now 4 months later, the company is seemingly on its way back with shows booked through next summer and enough stuff in the pipe to assure something would stick for the end of next year. I'm driving around in a car I am not happy with and missing my good old truck... WTH...

I guess I just need to vent and after 2+ years of coming to this site and reading any time I am bored, this seems like the best outlet.

I want my truck back, but according to the trusty Excel spreadsheet I created I would need to keep the car for two years as to not take a hit on it. Meaning, after two years the loss I took in the Tacoma would be gone with the savings I get from driving around in a car that costs 12k less and sucks up half the fuel.

Now, do I wait to see what 2011 brings for Tacoma, suck it up with the car and keep it in pristine condition for a possible sale late 2010, to buy the new body Taco... Buying the 2010 now does not make much sense, but I am unhappy. Maybe give the company a year to be sure all is well, and everything continues to move on an even keel.

What do you all think, I miss my truck so much the freaking Ridgeline is starting to look good.

sawzall the roof and trunk. Fab a Corolla-T. I'm getting 18mpg hwy at 73mph with cruise. what a joke of mpg's. But in all seriousness, I'd probably sell the corolla privately, for top dollar (relative), and purchase a used Tacoma from a private owner. this means you sell high(er) than trade in and you purchase lower than retail. Saving on both ends. More of a PITA and time consuming, but you save a lot more money when it's all said and done.

I wouldn't drive something that didn't make me happy. Really, you only live once. So if you can financially afford it, I would say get rid of the car and get into something that you enjoy driving. I don't know about you, but my truck is like a stress relief. After working all week, getting into my truck and going for a cruise on the weekend, it just feels good.

And a Ridgeline??? Yeah thats a nice car, but the Tacoma is a much better truck!

Ridgeline is a IFS/IRS Honda Pilot with the cargo area cut out. I'll pass on that. Not sure, but I doubt a locking differential is an option on them.

Take some time brother. I know exactly where you are coming from. In 2001 after getting a new job I could finally afford the vehicle I wanted. I went out and bought a brand new 2001 Taco ext cab TRD 4x4. Man that truck was bad ass.

Unfortunately, after about a year and a half I had to make some financial decisions that would force me to sell it. After selling it I drove around a piece of shit Honda Civic for 7 years. The thing was an embarrassment to be seen in the last couple of years, but it afforded me some time to be in a great position financially.

If I didn't do that I wouldn't be in a good place right now. Just this past friday I sold my peice of garbage to a kid for $600.00 and I am supposed to get my new Taco on the 20th of July. I guess to make along story short, If I were you I would drive that Corolla for as long as you need to before getting back into the truck you want.

Hope it all works out for you and your company is around for a long time. Cheers

I think the plan is gonna be to wait it out. While I'm not driving a beater (driving a 2009 Corolla S), to me its not the same. I'm very bored with the car. Stay with the 09 Rolla until the new body Taco comes out and go from there. I mean at 175/month, and 34mpg average fuel economy, it costs me nothing to drive the thing.
