I've said pretty much the same. Every day at work go to break and everyone's on their phone. I even have to watch myself on this club. My wife gives me crap sometimes as we sit in the evening and I'm on here.

 

Dial up internet = living in the dark ages.

 

Of course, why would the robots need us?

Work phone is on my belt.
Personal phone is in my jacket pocket, alerts are silenced, calls are forwarded to the work phone.

I could go to the restroom and make an outgoing on the personal phone.

I have noticed it myself, everyone walks around with their damn eyes glued to the smartphone in their hands. I myself have an iPhone 5, but I am not addicted to it. It angers me that so many people can't live without a smartphone.

My roommate is a prime example, he is chill and we get along fine, but he has this extended battery pack for his Samsung Galaxy 3 because his phone will die with the stock battery. He looked up the phone stats and told me that in 2 days of not charging it, he has used over 8 hours of screen time. (thats over 4 hours of his day spent on his cellphone). He falls asleep at night with the damn thing laying next to him on the bed. It's honestly pathetic!

Pay phone as in a public telephone that you put a coin into if you wanted to make a call. If the person you called didn't answer, tough shit, you lost your dime, unless your friend was rich and had an answering machine.
Cell phones didn't exist until the mid 1980s, and they were not small enough or afffordable enough to be commonplace until the mid 90s.
I can be pretty sure that your parents did not own a cell phone when you were born.

Before the mid 90s, the most reliable, affordable wireless communication available was CB radio.

 

Well... for one thing... the warnings are based on a paranoia that is based on fallacy.
A cell phone will not ignite fuel vapors even under perfectly ideal conditions (which don't exist at a gas pump).
You are far more likely to ignite fuel vapors by starting the pump, then getting back into your car, then getting out and removing the nozzle without touching a grounded object first.

Think about your wireless device.
Now think about the ignition coils in your car.
Now think about the rotor in the distributor cap of an older (not that much older) vehicle.
Now think about the 80+ amps of current pulled by your starter motor and the sparking of the brushes when you start your engine.
Which one of the 4 is going to start a fire at a gas pump?
