Who still uses their CD player?

I use the Bluetooth exclusively. I hardly own any cd's and 33's don't fit in the disc player.

 

8 tracks, cassettes and now CD's , uugh anything come out since? Did I miss something?

I installed a Kenwood Media receiver in my truck about two years ago and have never missed the CD slot/changer one bit. Runs off an old IPod.

 

And forget Notepad... Edlin was a great editor.

But if you really want to learn how to use a computer, my first program was written for a machine that had no keyboard and no monitor.
Spent a week punching cards for a mortgage amortization table calculator.
Test run program, verify output from daisy-wheel printer... then spend the next week finding the card with the error.

Realize the program was running properly, the printer ran out of paper because I set the payment $10 /month below the interest.
Apologize to math analysis teacher for wasting paper.

 

Never had a CD in my truck yet. XM radio & Aux gets the music to the speakers.

 

was usin the cd/tape deck combo till last week...got indash dvd nav now freakin awesome!!

 

I get much better audio volume from my CD player than I do when I use my aux input. Maybe I need some kind of booster.

 

don’t feel bad. my dad is 62 almost 63, and probably has more than that. i think it will be 2 years(maybe3) at Christmas we got him a 160Gb i pod and i looked at it the other day and i think it as less than 20Gb's of free space.

he has a bunch of records he wants to put on CD's and put on an ipod.

 

One of these days I want to back them up on my ext. HD, but that will be a long and tedious chore.

Yup, use the CD player every time I get in the truck. I don't have a fancy satellite radio or a hand-held music player to plug up. Hell, I don't even have radio. No antenna on the truck- previous owner broke it off down far enough to where I'm going to have to drill it out to put another one on. But I do have an antenna ready for that when the time comes- pulled one off my buddy's '89 Camaro after we yanked the engine before sending it to the scrapper. Still got tape players in both of our vans, the Honda didn't have any music. And got a couple 8-track players from some of our old cars in the garage.

 

Holy old school. I love the fact that you used "fancy" in your post too. Reminds me of the "Grumpy Old Man" skit from Saturday Night Live - circa mid nineties.

LOL. It is fancy to me. Aside from my sister's base model 2007 Cobalt, (which I don't drive) our newest vehicle has been the 97 Caravan. That stuff is fancy to me. I may be young, but all the vehicles we've ever owned were "old." So these spiffy radios with their satellites and whatnot are foreign to me. So tell me- they call it satellite radio, right? Do they really have satellites just for music up there with the space stations and military satellites and junk, or is that just what people call it?

Me too. I rip vinyl to MP3, put them on CD-Rs and leave them in my truck. Then there's no iPod inside my truck to tempt sketchy wiggers, and if a friend likes what we're listening to I just spit out the CD-R and give it to him.

 

Real satellites. XM and Sirius used to be two separate companies, but they are now merged (still maintain the two technologies and broadcast bands, XM is much less prone to dropouts).

Same thing as DirecTV... they only need one bird in Geostationary orbit to cover all of the US for basic functions, but DirecTV has 4 or 5 birds.
They're south of Texas about 22k miles out.

 

Ok. Yeah, I've heard of Direct TV before, I think that's what my buddy has. Isn't that also the kind of TV you can pause and rewind and stuff? (No cable here of any kind, lol. Just basic stations.)
Do you have to pay for satellite radios, (service fees) or do they just come with newer cars automatically?

 

You can pause, rewind, and record if you have a DVR and pay the extra $10 for the DVR service.
My DirecTV bill is $112/mo for all of the "normal" channels plus HBO, high-def, and DVR service.

Sat radio is also pay. It's about $20/month for the full package if you pay for a year in advance.

HD radio is free if you have a head unit that can receive it. AM sounds as good as FM and FM sounds better, but even in a big market like LA, coverage is spotty. It'll get there, but right now it's still pretty lame.

 

Had Paul Simon CD in my "app enabled" blue tooth , HD Radio DVD playin stereo.

And ya, the CD sounds good too.
