Arkansas? Not!! Alaska. We get that all the time so no worries. The next question we get from the mail order people is "Is that in the United States?" I moved here from Maine and still have family there so I know about east coast winters. You guys have had a worse one than us so far this year.

I had to special order the cap and therefore the truck but up here shipping kills you on anything as big as a cap. I did get some off sticker but not much, only one dealer in Anchorage. Thanks for the comments, I'm real happy with it so far.:D

the leading minor of order 1 is not positive definite.

ahem. well, i feel silly. i've even been to alaksa. do you actually live in ancorage or in the back country? i spent most of my time in fairbanks and around talkeetna (sp?), and a little down by the coast and a couple other places. can't wait to go back! and i'm in southern mass, so we hardly got any snow. maine and nh got slammed, though.

I would like to make a sugestion to all that are considering caps -
get them with the window on the front, not the boot -
they aren't called squeakers and leakers for nothing !
I have the window that folds down inside the cap so you can clean both windows

I leave in Eagle River which is part of Anchorage. The reference to Backcountry is more the type of skiing / hiking I like to do. We try to get out most weekends but work gets in the way. The house we have boarders a park so we are close to the wilderness.

I got the cap to use for camping. We do a lot of hiking/tent camping but lately there have been times it would have been nice to be able to sleep in a fairly dry truck bed.

    Good point!!!!
I was thinking about getting a slider so I can get air flow inside the cap during the hot summer months with out compermising the security of the cap itself. I do Nuisance Wildlife Trapping for work and fresh air is a must for the critters sitting in a cap.

Here's my DC LB wearing its new ARE MX Series.
I added a few options: Yakima rack, vented windoors, fold down front. I just got it yesterday. So far so good.

Homer J, I'm about to buy a similar cap. How do you like the side windoors? Is ventilation adequate for your dog when you're driving?

Ha... I wouldn't feel bad at all. I got several quotes from dealers all over the state before I ordered up a Snugtop XV from the local dealer. The prices were all over the place, which leads me to believe that they have plenty of flexibility in their price. I got the local guy to knock $350 off of his price, and include some other options at no cost. I'll post some pics when it's ready in a couple of weeks.

Mvega, Is that the Leer Browning edition? Is it worth the extra $$$. That is the shell I would like. What should I expect to pay for a shell like yours? I need a shell very soon for a trip. Any advice when looking? )never bought one....) Thanks.

ETA: just read your sig line. It is a Browning...doh!

I do recommend LEER... and if you do Hunting and have a need for transporting your long and short guns inside the cap in a secured place, this will do it, other than that, nah it does not worth it. I personally removed the "gun box" and place it upwards and side to side over my bed rails and now work as small tool storage. You will get also a carpeted interior, two lights (one 12V, one battery powered -remove it for two 12v remote activated-), cap rails and Thule bars (nothing to screw or mod) to just mount whatever you need (rack, lights, bicycles, etc.). I do not remember what else is included in this package, I added a cloth hanger, a removable and slide window, the rear window opens and closes with the Taco's remote, I also added a Bed Rug, and with this last addition on my hunting trips I forgot about where I'm going to sleep through the night.

    Several photos are attached.

Cool, thanks for the info. Not a big hunter, but I am a huge shooter and love to fish. What should I expect to pay for one? Never bought a shell.

This was my first cap too and the best thing to do is have more than one written quote (FAX, e-mail, mail or picked-up locally) from your dealer, with this in hand (quote) go to a next dealer ask for the same specifications and mention the quote in hand ("I like to have a better deal", Can you help me?) this is for the first try... then go back with the first one and... ("I got a better price, Can you make a better offer?) after this you can include a third quote or keep playing until you feel is the bottom. These products (caps) are not been sold all days that is our advantage and time is on our side. You will expect a price starting on the 900-1100 USD, and it can go up all the way to 2400-2500 depending on your added options I came with the idea of a looong term purchase (never remove the cap once installed) so I went with a lot of convenience features (me convenience) for what I do... Outdoors, Fishing, Hunting, Travel. Mine was around $2,400.00 with the bed rug included, bed rug was 350 - 400 I think.

Hope you find the best price.
    Consider the following brands:
    LEER
    ARE
    SNUGTOP

All of them has base models and specific models (Sport, Browning, etc).

I have seen a lot of Leer's but Snugtop has also a pretty nice look, as a matter of fact Snugtop's are the "OEM cap" when you order your truck from the dealer's lot.

I hope you have an excelent purchase experience and do not forget, play with them the only winner is you.

    Regards.

Yeah, at around $2500 from the one dealer I talked to. Way too much for my budget. Thanks again.
