Sorry to jump back to fuel cells, I haven't checked this thread since yesterday. But inside the metal can on the fuel cell is just a thick plastic bladder. I didn't use an adapter plate or anything to mount up the stock '04 pump/sending unit assembly. I simple used the stock rubber gasket as my template to cut the large oval for everything to drop thru. Then set the metal assembly in place and marked my bolt locations. Drill out all the holes. Then with the filler assembly out I used a gasket I made, set the pump assembly in place and secured it using regular bolts reaching thru the filler hole to hold a wrench on the inside nuts. Once done, I pulled out the shop vac, cleaned up what plastic debris had fallen inside the cell and buttoned it back up.

It's pretty easy and I've done it twice now. Only thing that kinda sucks is if you have to access it all when the cell is totally full. You gotta syphon it half way down to really make it so you can get your arm in there with the wrench. Then again, how often are you accessing your fuel pump? I've had to get into the race truck's setup once cause of a faulty solder joint...

hmmm so you were able to use the stock fuel pump and sending unit that way? I definitely need to look into this.
