    They're wrong...check your manual...I bet it's every 5,000 miles for the V6.

Just took my '13 DCSB V6 in for first free oil service. Was told it was a non synthetic oil service based on my vin. Asked what a synthetic upgrade would cost me.... $16 and change ... A no brainier

Never EVER believe the salesman. I have to bite my tongue SO hard during the whole process sometimes. I don't want to blatantly insult them and blow a good deal, but it's so tough sometimes.

When I was buying my Tacoma, I tried to negotiate in a set of the Baja wheels and the salesman told me that it was impossible to run different wheels on the truck with the TPMS system.

When I was purchasing my STi, the salesman didn't want me test driving the STi and was pushing the WRX on me telling me outside of the wing the cars were completely identical. I started explaining the differences and he said that in 2007 (when I was looking for my 2006) they made the models identical other than the spoiler.

Just yes them to death and once you stop dealing with them, do what the manual says as far as intervals.

That's a killer deal! I've gotten nicked for $43 on both of mine. I'm jealous.

The 30 day service is what they called "a courtesy service that do other dealers provide".

    Still seems odd.

Time waster. They will probably try and upsell you on additives you don't need, accessories you don't want, warranties they ask for your first born in return for, etc, etc.

You can do it cheaper than that yourself.

You're still under warranty. Don't worry about it -as long as there's nothing out of your pocket.

I once knew a guy who worked in a dealership, and he told me .... when dealerships are slow and not making money from regular (service) work, they can fall back on warranty work to bring dealership profits. So yea.... They could be 'looking' for something ... just to make profit.

Take the service while you can... as long as you don't mind waiting or running around. Get DETAILED invoices and ask lots of questions (WHY? WHAT?). Keep all you're documents.

You could always call a different dealership and ask them, "Is it standard practice to be requested to come back in after 30 days for a checkup on a new vehicle?"

    Yeah.
I think my dealer quoted me around $40 for the synthetic upgrade. I just have them rotate the tires, check fluid levels and whatever, and give me the filter and drain plug washer. I do the oil change myself.

Dealers make as much or more off of their service department -- they want to get you in there and used to them so they have your business. Doubtful they are looking for anything specific.
