Don't hesitate to give it up to whomever before hand.

I am interested but don't even have a tripod yet. Once I get one ordered and confirm compatibility I will PM you and see if you still have it. Just wanted to clarify I don't expect you to wait around for me. I could order a tripod tomorrow when I call B&H about my points back things, or it may take me a week or more. I don't know.

And I have a question for all. I have the regular lens that comes on a D70 (Nikkor 18-70mm) and I've been having this weird purple hue in the top right of my night pictures when I do long exposure. First thing that popped into my head was that I have a UV filter on my camera so I took the filter off and it's still there. I have no idea what it is. It might just be the lens.

    post a picture.

could be your lens, have you wiped off the front and rear elements with a microfiber cloth? maybe your sensor needs cleaning. have you tried a different lens to see if you get the same results? is this through all most aperture ranges? if not, I suspect it to happen at mostly wide open apertures, and that you just need to replace your lens.

This one I edited some. You can tell where the purple hue is. I just changed it to white that looks like a cloud. What do you all think?

And I have cleaned everything. Even before I cleaned everything, it still looked the same. That picture is after the cleaning.

EDIT: And it's only with night pictures with long exposure. Days pics or short exposure pics are fine.

do you have any other lenses to use to emulate that issue? I would think that it is your sensor(the d70 is an OLD dslr).

how did you clean your sensor? swab and solution? rocket blower? lenspen?

I don't have any other lenses.. I plan on getting more. I might try one of my dad's tomorrow to see if the lens is the problem. I'm pretty sure it is. I cleaned the lens and filter with a microfiber towel and a rocket blower.

Nooooo. I'm not that new to photography and DSLRs. lol I know to NOT touch the sensor at all.

And I do plan on switching to a D800 someday when I have the funds. That 300mm lens looks real nice though.

The coating they put on lenses(forgot all the different ones but theres quite a few lol) could be coming off. So the light isnt slightly altered like it is in the rest of the picture because of the different coatings? I dunno, late night guessing lol

Or, your sensor could just be failing :(

Well I was going to reply to what you originally said. Lol. I shot anywhere between f4.5-f9. I was told before that I didn't have it high enough because they were grainy. Lol. That one was shot on f7.1. But even f4.5 looks the same.

Lol. I didnt read what you asked so i completely answered a question i made up lol. See my new edit though...

Yeah, when i do star trails my max aperture is f/16. I will not open it up more just so that i have a pretty big plane to focus on. Makes it easier on me, and makes most of the picture in focus, which is usually what i shoot for when doing star trails, long exposure shots at night. Just my .02 on that though lol.

I dont really see how having a wide open aperture would make your image more noisy* than a small aperture? Noise occurs in shadows and mid tones, not in out of focus areas. It should be less noticeable if anything because its already in an OOF area.. Just my opinion though, and if someone wants to explain to me why this isnt correct, please do :)

I don't think the sensor is failing. Or I at least hope not. It only does it on these long exposure night shots

Generally small problems with your sensor or lens will show up on longer exposures because of the extra time your sensor is recording, iirc.
