Craigslist locally, he wanted $75 and I talked him down very easily. I have the 50mm 1.8D it's $129 new. A few months back it was $119 new. They must be getting popular.

 

I never thought I would use the 1.3 crop mode on the D7100 all that much, but I have to say, there have been a few times with my 85 and a couple with the 70-300 that I've used it to get that extra reach. It's actually pretty handy in a pinch.

 

Sweet. I might check out ebay for them. Is yours dx or fx?

I honestly don't see where that mode would be useful. wouldn't you just shoot in full frame and crop it in your photo editing software?

 

That's why they make 1 TB external hard drives. Watch for them on Black Friday cheap. I only shoot RAW so everything I take is 20 megs. I'm sure the D800 RAW's are probably twice that size though. I'd be more concerned if I was buying compact flash cards for that thing.

 

Well it's not only that, it's just even the 600 is more enough for me and it's about $1000 less. Plus the 600 is still full frame.

 

I don't shoot with it all day or anything, but you tell me, is it better to shoot a 15mp image cropped in the camera or a 24mp image and crop it in post? Only other benefit is that fps goes up from 6 to 7 when in the 1.3 crop. I have it so I've tried it, I'm not really aware of which is "better".

 

It's a FX. This one doesn't have a AF motor in it. You have to have a body that has the motor in it to use it as AF.

 

I see. Is it just as good without AF? Like which would you rather have?

 

My D7000 actually focuses faster with it than any of my consumer Nikon lenses with motors in them. I'm fine with the body focusing this one.

Yes,

Bring a tele lens. You'll want the versatility and it'll be the most useful for the quick random moments and you'll be able to keep your distance from people. Instead of being that awkward guy walking around the group of kids getting in their faces.

I mean..you still be that awkward guy..but a bit further away at least haha

bring a nice flash too.



Which leads me to my lastest thing. Im shooting a big crossfit competion again this weekend..just for fun not a gig..but was thinking of going a picking up a nice flash for it. Any tips?? I do not know a ton about using a flash..

 

What flavor of camera are you using again?

 

Canon 60D

 

Only thing I've heard of canon's is the 580. I think it's kinda pricey though. I've heard good things about the youngono's (sp) that run about $90 for canon's and Nikons. I've been thinking about picking a few of them up along with umbrella's and stands for some strobist stuff. I've got the Nikon sb-910 and it offers a lot but I'm not buying multiple $550 flashes when I don't need all the features for umbrella's. I'll buy studio flashes for that much.

Main I see is no AF motor in the 1.8D. It also has the silent wave motor in it so it focuses fast. The G is a handicap not a benefit. It removes the aperture ring.

Guess mine doesn't have excellent Bokeh. lol
