I just bought a set of 5100's... the site I got them from in Canada didn't have any rear size options...

I have the 4 leaf pack in the back.

would I have to buy the longer shocks if i plan on installing an 1.5" aal?

or could I raise the back a lil with a block if needed? Im basically looking to level my truck with the 1.75" setting but hope I didnt shoot myself in the foot if I want/need to throw more in the back cause of bro lean/anti rake...

pls bare with me im new to this stuff but learning :)

I'd go with a add a leaf, blocks could cause axle wrap/

For the length, the stock ones will work fine as long as you don't lift over 1.5'', when you go to order new shocks just measure the distance from the shock mount points (with the tires off the ground, truck supported by jackstands under the frame) and that's you're extended length, then just find which shocks that have a slightly longer extended length then the length you measured.

I bought the regular 5100 sized rear shocks already without knowing I might need a longer length...

So if I added a 1.5" aal to a 4 leaf (tsb) rear would the reg length 5100 be too short?

Would I need the longer 5100's?

I'm just looking to level with the 1.75" setting on the fronts so hopefully I won't have to touch the back...

Thx for the help hopefully I get this figured out my appointment with the dealership is next week... Eek

I believe the stock length will work with 1.5'' lift, as long as you don't flex the rear to the max, but i wouldn't be to worried about it.

5100's come in 2 lengths, stock length and extended. You have stock length.

I have the same rear shocks, TSB leaf pack and 2" of lift and it does just fine. I went with the 3-leaf AAL from Icon and left the overload leaf in place for an effective 2" of lift. I can flex the rear out just fine without damaging the shocks but, as mentioned above, if you like to go nuts off road then you should get the proper length shocks. For daily driving and mild off roading, the shocks you have will do just fine.

    Thx for the help man!

Sweet, so if I needed to or wanted to put a 1.5" aal in the back I would be fine.... That's good news .

I set my fronts too 2.5" in feb. and left the rear alone, so I was about an inch high in the nose. I just switched to 5100's in the rear yesterday and for some reason its level now. So it seems you gain an inch of lift in the rear just by adding 5100's. Not sure why but the tape measure don't lie.

    Op.....

The reg length 5100s are short enough to top out with 1.5" if u wheel.

The stock sshocks arent long enough (ideally) for the 4 leaf stock setup.... They limit droop substantially and can be easily topped out, but if ur not pushing the truck, u won't notice it. The biggest issue with the longer 5100s is u will lose up travel and have to lower the bumpstops or u will bottom out the shock about 2" before making contact with the bumps.

I measured after I took it off stands after I noticed it was higher in the rear, remeasured the next day, same deal, I'll remeasure in a couple weeks again.

I off road a bit but no rock climbing or hard core stuff...

I would be stepping up the fronts with longer springs in the future so I wanna take my time and do it right... Thanks...

So maybe the 5100 would be fine if I didn't rip the truck?

I'd imagine so... Based on ur uses it can be fine. If u have a cap or carry a certain amount of weight regularly it may help avoid the topping out too... That's a total guess plz feel free to correct me in my mistake.

I do run the standard 5100s now and very rarely top them out. They have fallen apart before on other rigs, but its not common, and who knows how hard they were pushed.

I've ran them for a few years now and being a prerunner I don't exactly abuse them.

It seemed safer to me to run standards and have enough down travel.... Compared to AWESOME droop and a better ride due to the longer shocks being in a sweet spot at rest and having more travel, but sacrificing my uptravel and bottoming the shocks out well before initial bumpstop contact.

Hope that made sense.... Haven't bee awake too long, and I'm a Lil groggy in and out of bed.... Took a muscle relaxer for back pain too.

I'd also suggest checking out the superbumps from wheelers off road.

    I love em!

    Man this is confusing ...

Thx for all the replies ,

so a 4 leaf pack with a 1.5 aal + reg length 5100 should be ok if I'm not planning on flexing the crap outta it?

measure your height when you get them on to be safe. but at 1.5" you should be fine.

    youre a 2nd gen, and I'm a 1st

but this was me on a 2" AAL, when I was running 5100's before they offered the extended models...

That's what I have and it's help up well. I don't do anything crazy with my truck but I have gotten it in the woods to flex it out a bit and it seemed to be a good match.
