I had the AT2s on a Cherokee a few years back. Absolutely terrible on the ice, I wouldn't recommend them as a winter tire unless you had them studded. The Duratracs on the other hand were phenomenal. I had them on an F250 for work (to and from the bush, 200 kms a day for work on icy logging roads) and they worked well (for a non-dedicated winter tire) and they have the mountain-snowflake symbol, meaning they've been tested below 7*C. The only problem I found with them was that they didn't like to follow icy-bottomed ruts in the snow.

    Hope it helps.

i ran the goodyear territory in a 235/85/16 when my truck was completely stock, they're only an inch taller than the stock size and the same width. you will regret not going up the one size, fuel consumption change was not noticeable with this size. anyway, to tell you about the tire i found they were far better than the stock tires, did ok in ontario during the winters even when i had no weight in the back. off road they were ok, certainly a different class from the stock tires in a good way. they wore ok, i never rotated them which bit me in the ass cause the fronts went to shit early due to a less than perfect alignment after lifting. they will ride rougher. if you're only on the road and on some dirt here and there the grabbers might be a nice tire, they seem to work ok off road also. both of these go on sale at canadian tire.

I'm a real lover of Michelin X-Ice for the winter (16" steel rims= cheaper and larger diameter, to correct the speedo)..and I'm throwing away the summer 17" Dunflops that came with it for a nice pair of Michelin summer tires (old ones are 7 yrs. old).... I've got about 100,ooo Kms on the pair......(summer and winter)...

I'm pulling the pin and going for the new summer Michelins (on my summer aluminum wheels) next month (as I put on the snow tires)..

Then in the spring....I'll go for a new set of Michelin X-Ice (on my winter rims).......

If ya buy them at the WRONG time of the year like me.... you can can get a better price.....hehehehe

Interesting about the deals down here in the states it's just the opposite. You typically get the best deals right at the beginning of a particular season, and pay full prices anytime out of season. They don't seems to care at all if a set of tires. Sits in the warehouse for 6 months waiting for the next season.

As for being a dead set Michelin guy, my experience is that every manufacturer makes some really great tires, and some down right crappy tires, and rarely is that quality directly proportional to price. So I have found it really benefits to shop around around and not be too brand focused when it comes to tires, because you may be missing out on a great tire that costs way less from someone else. That being said if you're really happy with all things Michelin more power to you.

I have the duratracs 265/75-16. I was riding on them with my access cab. I've sold that and now have a DCLB I'm going to put them on. Have to wait until I lift because they wont fit on factory height. They hum a little, but not terrible. It's hard for me to say how they handle because my caster was out from the lift that I had. They felt slightly sloppy on the highway, but possibly because of my caster. They look great though.

since you're not wheeling i would suggest the grabbers if you are looking for a nicely priced tire, they ride better, as the territories are fairly stiff. a friend of mine has the grabbers and they ride nice on his jeep on the road might have more siping that the territories.

    thanks for the comments.

just waiting for the next CT flyer to come (this weeks didn't have any sales).

i know i was initially leaning towards the Territory/Duratrac but think i'll get better wear and handling outa the General Grabbers AT2's, since 99% of my driving is city/highway.

i'll let everyone know what i go with and if i figure out how to post pics will do so with the new shoes. gonna go OWL with this set.

I ran the Grabber AT2's on a tacoma I had a few years ago. year round 90/mile a day commute in New England. I thought for what wasn't a dedicated snow tire they worked awesome in the snow. I haven't even had many dedicated snows that weren't studded that worked worth a damn on ice. Ice is ice. They wore great too as long as I rotated them every other oil change. I just bought tires for my current truck from tire rack and with my commute, concern for gas mileage, and the fact I rarely go off road they actually suggested the Grabber HTS, which is a highway tire. They said snow performance is comparable with the AT2. I guess I'll find out in a few months. But so far I love them. Quieter than the dunlops the truck came with, better cornering, and a ton of siping.

I drive a company van so my taco is just a toy, I have Goodyear wrangler MTR's and really like the look of them but I want better winter traction.

i really love my firestone destination AT. i know that wasn't a tire that you were looking into, but if you go to tirerack.com you can compare tires, and see how they rate on different road conditions

what about the BFGR All-Terrain T/A KO? They are available at CT, I have them and so far no complains, they do well int he snow and ok on ice (can't expect them to do as good on ice as a dedicated winter tire).

We use the Hankook RW11 on my wife's SUV and they feel quite a bit better on the snow and ice then the all-terrains that are on my truck. These are also available at CT.
