Hey guys this is my first post here as a result of some searching around and not finding anything that seems to be related to the problem I'm having. I had a 2010 taco that got totaled a couple months ago. Insurance bought me a new 2013 one, same model and style (Red, double cab, 4x4, TRD off road). I noticed after I drove the truck home (from a dealer 2.5 hrs away) that the 4WD light was on. Naturally I panicked, thinking I had overlooked it and just driven 200 miles on the freeway in 4wd. Luckily the switch was in the 2WD position, and I hadn't noticed any problems on the drive, so I figured it was just a malfunction in the display light and I would fix it later. The next day when I decided to test it out switching it between 4wd and 2wd it seems like I can't get it to do anything. I don't really know how to test if 4wd is engaged other than turning the wheels all the way as it seems whenever i did that on my last truck when in 4wd they wouldn't turn all the way and sort of made a grinding sound. That didn't happen. Also i can't feel or hear the bump when it engages the 4wd. so I strongly suspect that it's not engaging. But the 4wd light is ALWAYS on, lit up green. doesn't matter if the switch is in 2wd or 4wd. Has anyone heard of this problem? should I just take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it? (Since i have the 13k bumper to bumper warranty) or is there some kind of trick I don't know about? Thanks for the help in advance.

Take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty or a dealer nearby

Your truck is definitely not in 4wd if you can turn the wheel all the way while moving. Did you try to shift to 4-HI while driving?

Either way, I'd definitely take it back in because something is not right.
