Eclipse AVN726e Steering wheel control? 09 DC

Anyone hook up the steering wheel controls to Eclipse AVN726e in a 09 double cab? Had it installed but I was told I needed a part to hook up the steering wheel controls. After reading about the AVN726e, I've read it should be able to be hooked up as is. I'm just not sure of how. Any help would be great!

So far I like this unit. I have Sirius traffic hooked in but haven't experienced it yet. I didn't go with the direct Sirius as I'm hooked on my Sportser 5. I need the rewind/pause/FF functions.

 

i have no experirence with that unit you have but have known that eclipse headunit are ready to go for steering wheel controls. you do have to go to the eclipse website to download software for it to work though

 

Thanks for the reply. I've read everything on the Eclipse site and from what I can understand, this unit should hook right up. There are two wires from the AVN726e that will connect to two wires to the steering wheel and then one wire from the steering wheel should be grounded. I've just been unable to figure out what the colors are for the 09.

 

try the12volt.com for diagrams. for an 09 i don't know if they will be up yet but they may be

 

I have a AVN726e but in my 02 so I don't have steering wheel controls but I swore it still required a PAC steering wheel control interface for it to be able to work.

 

I am getting ready to put this unit in. In my old FJ Cruiser I had the 6600 in it. The steering wheel connector from the Toyota side plugged right into the Eclipse unit with no adapter or harness. I can't imagine that they changed it.

Have you dug into this any farther? Should be putting the unit in tonight.

I'm still looking into this. Please let me know how you make out. The Eclipse web site says it should connect to most directly. I also read on a Tundra forum that it was connected directly but the colors in the Tundra are different. Thanks.

 

Pretty awesome. I have a screaming baby on my lap and a 3.5 year running around so I can't open the box but looking at the manual (doing all this on my phone) it looks like there are bare wires that will need to accomodate the factory steering wheel controls. So at first glance it doesn't appear to plug right in. Too bad because I don't see anywhere to get a harness to plug into the Toyota steering wheel plug.

I'm going into work early to solder up my harness and further investigate. I was hoping it (steering wheel controls) to be plug and play like my old AVN Eclipse in the FJ but it's not looking like it. I'll post more in the a.m. when I have time to actually open the box

 

Here is a cut and paste I found in another forum. (I'm not sure if I cound have put the link) Its for a Tundra so I think its possible.

Full steering wheel functionality is achieved by:

1: connecting the brown wire from the hu to the light green wire of the K5 connector.

2: connecting the brown and black wire from the hu to the brown wire of the k5 connector.

3: connecting the gray wire to a ground

With this you have full functionallity of the volume, changing stations, changing modes answering the phone, hanging up the phone and muting the stereo. This is all functions on the steeringwheel switch. AWESOME!!! This is a biggie that's not available on the 5495.

All in all bang for the buck, no question, this is a SIC unit, I am very impressed.

Yeah... I saw that post as well. I am not sure what a k5 connector is. I don't have the phone controls on my steering wheel, just track/mode/volume. I put a call into Fujitsu ten for fun to see if they have any insight. I was hoping not to have to cut my factory steering wheel control harness but may have too.

We will keep in touch. I'm pumped to put it in but fatherhood calls. So you have yours in?where did you put the iPod cable? My PXAMG module, I routed into my center console through one of the holes cut out for the cargo net but the iPod cable looks like it has 3 connectors on it so it probably won't fit through that hole.

 

I just wired my harness last night. There are 2 brownish connectors coming off the eclipse harness. I assume these are for the steering wheel controls. The manual says they are.

Now I don't know if these can be mated to the factory steering controls. Will research today.

 

I'm not very impress with mine at all because there are some kinks to work out. Although the USB port is nice the part that I don't like is when I am playing a compressed MP3 CD that it spazzes out and everything doesn't work right like the volume, Navi...maybe a firmware update may fix it. Another thing I like to try to figure out is to d/l my own wallpaper onto my AVN726e. If anyone knows how, lmk. I just did a test plug in to make sure my harness works and the factory toyota steering wheel plug has no mate on the Eclipse side (as we thought).

Right now, that is the only thing preventing me from buttoning it up. I will be researching a way to do it as the days goes.

I'm one of the people that still doesn't have an IPOD so I can't help with that. I like using the USB connection with a flash drive as I have that in my boats as well. I'm gonna try to mount the USB in one of those blank spaces next to the AUX input in the truck.
I plan on connecting the AUX input into the unit using the VTR input. I think that will work.
I had the dealer install a switch to keep the radio on when I remove the key but its not working the way I wanted so I have to fool with that also.
He was also supposed to hang the wires to connect a rear monitor but he hung out the wrong ones.
I should have just installed this myself.
I'm away on vacation, so I won't be able to actually mess with the wiring till this weekend. But I'm still surfing the net for info on the Steering control. I also emailed Eclipse to see if they could help. If I find anything new I'll post it.

I just got an email reply back from Eclipse. Here is what they said.

"The AVN726E does not not have the 20 pin harness so you would have to hard wire the wires into the factory harness which are (Pin 6 radio ground Pin 7 Brown/Black SW1 and Pin 8 Brown SW2)"

So there is no need for an adaptor. Just connect the wires. I am a little unclear as to what SW1 and SW2 but the way it looks to me is.

Pin 6 from the toyota harness goes to a ground.
Pin 7 from the toyota harness goes to the Brown/Black wire on the AVN726e
pin 8 from the toyota harness goes to the Brown wire on the AVN726e

John, You could hook it up straight and it will recognize it on the 20 pin Toyota plug pin 6 is going to be radio ground pin 7 going to be Brown/Black and pin 8 is going to be solid Brown.

Cool that we have dual verification. Going to do mine tonight. Too bad I will have to splice into the factory wiring but I guess it's only 3 wires. I didn't have much luch finding the mate to the harness.

 

I'm all wire up like Eclipse said to do and it all works as expected.
